You will have a crucial role in ensuring that all learners at BCT have a fully supported and positive experience during their study. You will work with the Student Services Manager & DSL to support learners at risk including coordinating referrals to social care, attending and contributing reports for relevant meetings and keeping careful records of actions. The role is varied and supported by the whole student services team. Members of the team need to be organised, punctual and passionate about helping learners develop their vocational and life skills.

**Student Services Officer Responsibilities - to support the Students Services Manager to**:

- Build relationships and work with learners, parents/carers, BCT staff, external agencies and the wider community to secure good outcomes for learners, especially those who are deemed vulnerable or at risk.
- Accompany learners on trips, including overseas placements
- Feedback on learners at risk of not achieving to the Student Services manager
- Track engagement with student services / issue / outcome
- Support with 16-19 bursary and attendance and registers as required
- Support with Breakfast Club and enrichment activities as required
- Complete administrative duties as required

Safeguarding Officer responsibilities - to support the Designated Safeguarding Lead to:

- Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to all disclosures or concerns relating to the wellbeing and safeguarding of a learner, to ensure learners are kept safe from harm.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date documentation on all cases of safeguarding and child protection and provide reports where required
- Deputise for the DSL if they are unavailable, including attending meetings and making referrals to MASH or other appropriate agencies
- Work directly with children in need and their families to promote, strengthen and develop the potential of parents / carers to support children to prevent learners suffering significant harm or becoming looked after
- Liaise with statutory agencies and ensure they have access to all necessary information to make sound judgements and decisions about learners’ welfare
- Initiate and refer learners to outside agencies and co-ordinate referrals
- Liaise with college staff in initiating multi-agency referrals for learners
- Maintain confidentiality at all times, and ensure appropriate confidentiality is maintained by all staff during safeguarding processes
- To assist in delivering staff safeguarding training

**Desired qualities**:

- Experience of working in the field of education and/or welfare, with relevant experience and qualifications
- Willingness to participate in further training and development opportunities
- Significant organisational and administrative skills, supported by a proficiency with ICT
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone manner, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal skills and solution focused approach to professional relationships
- The ability to work in a demanding environment, meeting deadlines by prioritising and delegating as necessary
- Strong listening skills and the ability to deal with sensitive situations with integrity
- Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate initiative
- Flexible, motivated and committed to high standard of working, with a willingness to take on additional duties
- Good attendance and punctuality
- Resilient and determined to achieve goals
- Committed to the ethos of the college

**Salary and days of work**
- 17.5 hours per week Term-Time only.
- Fixed-Term contract until the end of July 2024.
- Salary of FTE £25,000 (actual salary £7,075).
- Start date Monday 04 December 2023.

**How to apply**

You must be eligible to work in the UK and possess a UK work permit if needed. This job is based in London and cannot be done remotely.
