Catering Assistant

Altrincham College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

We seek to appoint a Catering Assistant to join our catering team in delivering healthy, nutritious and cost-effective meals to students and staff.

**Responsibilities**:

- Prepare, cook and present food, under the direction of the Catering Manager.
- Transport and serve meals across the school (e.g. to the Sixth Form café and our outside catering facility “The Pod”).
- Contribute to general kitchen and dining room duties (e.g. washing up, setting up, clearing away of equipment and tables), under the highest Covid hygiene controls.
- Clean the kitchen(s), surrounds and equipment, under the highest Covid hygiene controls.
- Use of tills as part of the school’s cashless catering system.
- Attend training appropriate to the role.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out with due regard to the appropriate policies and procedures i.e. Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Food Standards, Allergens, Risk Assessments etc.
- Maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the school.

Person specification

Qualifications/Knowledge (Essential):

- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain this qualification within 6 months of starting in post).
- Food Allergen Certificate (or willingness to obtain this qualification within 6 months of starting in post).
- Working knowledge of current food hygiene and health and safety legislation.
- Awareness of healthy eating issues, nutrition and food allergens.

An enhanced DBS is required prior to commencing work (which the School will arrange and pay for).

Skills/Attitude (Essential):
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to relate well to people on all levels with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.

Honesty, energy, stamina and enthusiasm.

Flexibility in working hours and a positive attitude and ability to work under pressure.

Professional but approachable demeanour in relating to all members of the academy community.

Required to wear uniform / protective clothing as issued.

Willingness to “roll up sleeves”, with a ‘can do’ approach.
