An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Theatres Central coordinator team. The successful post holder will work in our reception and recovery areas within the theatre complex.

The post holder will assist in the provision of an efficient and co-ordinated service to all staff within the Theatre Suite. Act as a point of contact for all users of the theatre suite as determined by the Theatre Management Team including acting as a point of contact for the department.

You will receive, coordinate and communicate information for users within Theatres across Derriford Hospital, ensuring the most effective use is made of theatre resources. This will require effective and close liaison with surgeons, anaesthetists, medical secretaries, theatre staff, bed management and data collection of theatre lists.

We are looking for people who will enjoy working as part of a busy and vibrant team, who are able to prioritise their workload, and who can remain calm whilst working in a busy environment.

**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.**
- To assist with patient flow and bed management
- To assist and support processes which allow rescheduling of sessions not required by the named surgeon, taking into account waiting lists pressures and cross-specialty requirements. Liaise with relevant individuals to facilitate this process whilst following the 642 theatre policy.
- To provide patient flow support to the main recovery department
- To support the Theatre Operations Manager and Matrons to ensure that theatre capacity is utilised to its maximum.
- To liaise with directorate teams and theatre staff to determine available resources and support senior team leaders to plan work accordingly.
- To help support the use of an electronic theatre management system via Bluespier
- To communicate constantly changing situations to relevant parties in a clear and concise manner, via the telephone, intercom and face to face.
- To keep an up-to-the-minute record of theatre bookings to ensure accurate information is managed and relayed to relevant staff.
- To ensure all relevant administrative information is up-to-date and available for reference, to include master and weekly timetable via Bluespier and the excel rota, anaesthetic cover and on-call rotas.
- To help administer Waiting List requests, being pro-active in the staffing of them and maintaining regular communication with relevant parties and keeping an accurate record of events.
- To co-ordinate and monitor the cancellation of patients via Bluespie.
- Work closely with senior team leaders and theatre staff to ensure that patient administration functions within theatres are carried out and data recorded in a timely manner.
- Take responsibility for working with the Theatre Management Team to establish systems and processes to ensure communication across the Trust supports improved theatre utilisation.
- Monitor and highlight to Operational manager, Matron and Theatre Management team any delays to theatre work.
- To maintain a log of issues / actions on a daily basis.
- To report daily to theatre operational support/HDU meeting.
- Ensuring adequate anaesthetic cover for scheduled lists.
- To ensure daily communication with operational management team, DFA, Recovery and critical care regardingpatient flow.
- To ensure escalation of concerns is undertaken to the operation support manager/Theatre Matron and / or Directorate Managet
- To work flexibly to meet service requirements
- To identify any potential risk or incident and ensure they are reported according to the trust policy and escalated to the operational Manager, Duty Senior / Matron
- Undertake monitoring to ensure adequate resources available to enable theatre teams commence surgery, this includes linen (scrubs) - communication with appropriate department to rectify any issues
- Reception of all visitors to the theatre suite - to include medical staff/students and nursing staff, patient relatives and representatives
- Registration for visitors - ensures all are signed in and out of suite and assigned appropriate name badge
- Ordering of stationary required within theatre suite.
