Desford, United Kingdom Caterpillar Full time

**Career Area**:Administrative Support**:
**12 Month Industrial Placement Scheme **- Supply Chain

**Location**:Desford, Leicester

**Salary**:£18,600, Share Scheme, Pension, Flexible working, and 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).**

**Who is Caterpillar?**

Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. Operating from 50 countries around the globe, the Caterpillar brand has developed into a symbol of strength, respect, and integrity. The organisation has a clear vision to be the global leader in providing customer value in the markets in which it operates. Our core values (Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Commitment and Sustainability) are key to our success.

**What do we do?**

Caterpillar Leicester is part of the Building Construction Products (BCP) division, manufacturing a range of world class Backhoe Loaders and Compact Wheel Loaders, as part of the wider BCP range. Products that are reliable, cost effective, versatile, and adaptable. Leicester is more than just a production facility - it is a full product development centre with global responsibility for its products. Our Stockton facility manufactures the core fabrications which are supplied directly to the production lines at Leicester.

Supply Chain is at the heart of every business, and here is no exception. Think about the daily sourcing of materials from across the world, then think about how these parts are transported into a company, manufactured, and shipped out to customers within demanding lead-times. This is only a highlight of what it means to work in Supply Chain.

Working within our Supply Chain function means delivering a quality product to a satisfied customer - on time, over and over again. The department is therefore a highly important link between our teams involved in product development, production, and most importantly our customers.

**What experiences can we offer you?**

During this year-long placement, you will be a member of the Material Planning department based in either Leicester or Stockton-On-Tees. Although this placement will be based at either Leicester or Stockton, frequent travel between both locations will be required. The main focus of the department is to operate on a tactical / strategic basis to ensure our supply chain drives towards excellence in efficiency, reliability, and flexibility. This role utilises the Caterpillar Production System (Lean Manufacturing) Principles to deliver People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) improvements. As a Supply Chain Planner/Analyst, you will collaborate with global suppliers to ensure execution to planned orders and schedules and resolve issues with suppliers to ensure material availability for the production facilities. From day one you will be embedded in a team solving real world problems. You will get to work and collaborate with people in Caterpillar facilities worldwide.

**Job duties may include, but are not limited to**:

- Ensure timely delivery of materials to the facility
- Supplier collaboration to meet facility production plans
- Utilize root cause corrective actions to resolve quality and supplier performance issues
- Requisition materials and ensure inventory levels maintained
- Manage and perform supplier scheduling and implementation of engineering changes for the efficient manufacture of products and components
- Support supply chain performance efforts by monitoring and tracking supplier performance metrics.

Projects will include full integration into Caterpillar Supply Chain planning systems through the onboarding of all aspects of the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system.

Working with experienced team members you will receive all the coaching, guidance, and support for your work and personal development. It is our intention that you will be given opportunities to develop your knowledge and experience within a real-world setting. Our aim is that these industrial placement opportunities provide the firm foundations necessary for a long and successful future career.

We also operate a conditional offers process; our highest performing placement students are fast tracked to our graduate development scheme with a conditional offer of employment upon returning to university. This includes a financial incentive and the potential of a summer work placement.

**Who are we looking for?**

We’re looking for people who can show us a highly participative working style, and who thrive in a team of committed professionals. And at the same time, we need people who can think independently and drive change through persuasion and influence. Strong analytical, communication and presentational skills are a must as you’d need to package clear strategic recommendations based on data and sell them confidently to production and management employees.

Successful applicants will ideally hold a full UK driving licence.
