We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant to join the Primary Care team at HMP Winchester, a Category B male prison just outside of the city centre. HMP Winchester has free onsite parking as well as excellent transport links - there is a bus stop opposite the site and the train station is a 10 minute walk.

This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care. HMP Winchester is a remand prison with capacity of around 650. You will be spending a lot of your shift working with patients, nurses and medication.

**Hours**:
This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, and you will work 4 shifts on a rota basis. Shifts are 07:30 - 18:00 Monday to Sunday.

**Salary**:
This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £29,085 per annum - depending on experience.

**What you'll be doing**:
As our new Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

- Working closely with the nurse, dispensing medication to patients (including methadone)
- Second checking medication and signing off
- Deliver personalised, non judgemental care, based on patient feedback
- Work 1-1 with patients as necessary

Our new Healthcare Assistant will:

- Hold a NVQ Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or equivalent
- Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
- Ideally have experience within substance misuse, although this isn't essential
- Experience with the community, hospital, residential or domiciliary care would be a bonus
