Taunton, United Kingdom Somerset County Council Full time

**A bit about us**
We have an opportunity for a Public Health Research Support Officer to join our Public Health Intelligence analyst team on a full time or part time basis for the equivalent of 1 year. This is a newly created role part funded by National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Somerset County Council (SCC) with a focus on building research capacity within public health and supporting the development of a research culture across the local authority.

**Here's what you can expect to be doing**
You will be familiar with funding and the research process and passionate about identifying opportunities for Somerset. You will be competent finding, summarising and presenting external research on public health issues and crafting this into engaging presentations. You will be able to develop the local evidence base by specifying, sourcing and analysing data to write reports to inform commissioning and strategic planning.

You will be linking across the council, and a number of our local and national partners including the Somerset Integrated Care Board, NHSE, academia and the NIHR CRN to enhance our ability to use, develop, host or contribute to research. Locally, you will be mapping research across the Somerset Integrated Care System, providing delivery support for studies hosted in Somerset, supporting development of data systems, analysing public health interventions and making research more accessible to colleagues across SCC via briefings and training.

**A few things about you**
You will need to be educated to degree level or have an equivalent level of experience of working at a postgraduate or postdoctoral level within a health or social care research environment. This may suit a person in the final stages of writing up their MSc or PhD and we are able to offer the post (initially) part time to facilitate this.

You will have a track record of delivering projects in a timely, organised manner, in partnership with all stakeholders and reporting against agreed milestones.

**Additional information**

Hybrid working is supported, but you will need to be able to travel and work with partners across Somerset in a timely manner and occasionally attend regional or national meetings.

**Salary**: £32,909 - £37,261 per annum

Interviews will be held on 16th January 2023.

Fixed term position for 1 year.

From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.

**Why choose Somerset County Council**
We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset. We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:
