Clinical Assist the Clinical Educator in supporting the Team Leaders/ Matrons, Head of Midwifery in the development of midwifery practice, strategy and business plans. Assess the quality and baseline clinical skills of staff. Set, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of compassionate patient care. Participate in the analysis of information from a variety of sources and make recommendations for the clinical area.

Develop effective networks for sharing information expertise, and good practice, both within and outside the Trust. Promote evidence based practice, wherever possible. Participate in the implementation of Trust wide nursing and midwifery policy and practice guidelines. Work in partnership with the Clinical Educator/Clinical Governance and Risk management team to develop and review guidelines and work based learning packages.

Provide high quality care and act as a role model and resource for advice, support and guidance. Acts in accordance with the NMC code of conduct. Ensure and promote the maintenance of a safe, clean and secure working environment. Maintain accurate records using the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trusts documentation.

Benchmark clinical care against agreed standards and across associated/linked units. Acts in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of adults, children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies. Education and Training Promote an effective learning environment within the workplace and demonstrate that it is of a quality assured standard.

Involvement in all aspects of training (as part of a team), led by the Clinical Educator. Involvement in the development of competency frameworks and scoping of relevant training programmes, led by the Clinical Educator Work collaboratively with the clinical Educator to produce quarterly reports. Provide Support within the Education Team with work experience and volunteering Demonstrate that Clinical Practice educators are fit for purpose to discharge their educational roles and responsibilities, appropriately reviewed by the Clinical Educator Band 7 within their appraisals. Participate in reviewing the existing induction and preceptorship programmes and adapt to reflect the needs of the service and the individual.

Participate in the development of training development packages for Midwifery staff. Support the induction and development of staff through use of agreed development packages and individualised induction packages. Support staff in association with Team Leaders, the Clinical Educator, and Matrons in facilitating individual performance development plans. Support staff to develop evidence based practice and research activities to further enhance patient safety and care.

Maintain detailed and accurate records regarding staff education and mandatory training working with Organisational Learning. Support the Clinical Educator in evaluating educational programmes to ensure clinical areas achieve and maintain an accredited educational learning environment for students. Respond to request for provision of targeted education/training programmes in response to incidents and or identified clinical need Facilitate and deliver educational programmes for staff at all levels. Collaborate with Organisational learning on provision of training and education.

Liaise with outside agencies in the development of suitable education and training opportunities for staff. Leadership Provide support to the clinical team and working with Matrons, Team Leaders/and Clinical Educator to develop new roles/ways of working. Support the development of Clinical Midwifery staff at all levels. Motivate staff in the delivery of quality patient care.

Supervise clinical delivery of care at bedside. Support the Clinical Educator in the recruitment and selection process. Participate in managing the placement of all rotational staff to ensure that both appropriate individual learning needs and service delivery needs are met. Contribute to departmental and service improvements to achieve CSU strategy.

Deputise for the Clinical Educator in their absence. Assist the Clinical Educator in preparation of reports as to progress of staff, current status against required standards and development needs for the unit. Raise concerns with regards risk, danger, malpractice or wrong doing by following the LTHT Whistleblowing policy and supporting processes.
