In January 2021, North Tees and Hartlepool launched the Team Support Worker role for a trial period of 6-months to provide vital support for staff and patients. The success of the role has been demonstrated with TSW employees moving into permanent employment as Healthcare Assistants or starting HCA Apprenticeships with the organisation. Others moved onto administrative and clerical roles in the organisation or used the 6-months NHS experience to help gain permanent employment in other organisations. A number also decided to start on a journey to becoming a registered nurse as a result of the time spent working as a Team Support Worker.

Working under the supervision of our healthcare teams you will record information and assist in the planning for admission, transfer and discharge of patients as they move through the healthcare service.You will also assist in the orientating of patients and visitors to the ward environment, which has been so vitally important through the COVID pandemic. You will complete basic administrative duties within the clinical setting: answer telephones, restock supplies for hospital or home, and utilise computer systems, where appropriate after completing adequate training. These tasks are all key parts of supporting the running of a busy clinical area and ensuring staff provide high quality care to patients. You will therefore need to be able to work well under pressure and prioritise your tasks. Every day is different in a hospital and no two days will be the same, but being part of a team makes every day a rewarding one, and one that you can learn from to take into the next one.
Whilst experience in a health or care environment is desirable, it’s not essential. You may be able to evidence your care and support for others through different roles you have had, caring responsibilities you have for family or activities you are involved in.
