SALARY: £28,377 - £39,281 per annum

CONTRACT: Ongoing dependant on funding

**Overview**:
Staff may be expected to work both independently on their own initiative and as part of a team supported by and offering support to their colleagues. The Behaviour Support Lead will oversee the behaviour management of young people who attend the project, providing support and strategies to the colleagues. The Behaviour Support Lead will contribute to session planning meetings and end of session reviews. Staff will also be expected to attend relevant training.

The Behaviour Support Lead will be involved in supporting staff and delivering youth work practice where required, tutoring young people in their appropriate field, organization of recreational activities, and will undertake face to face teaching. They will also support tutors by managing challenging behaviour and working one to one or with smaller groups sometimes when required. The nature of the work requires a flexible, positive, creative, child centred approach.

**Accountability**

The Behaviour Support Lead is accountable to the Operations Manager in the first instance and then the Managing Director. The Management Committee of the Young Lewisham Project has ultimate responsibility for all Project Employees. Therefore, staff are ultimately accountable to the Management Committee.

The particular responsibilities will differ depending on the group(s) the Youth Work Lead Tutor/behaviour support is working in and these will be outlined in specific personal work plans (to follow). They may work in more than one area of the project, as such, individual and generic specifications can be referred to.

**Main Duties**

The Behaviour Support Lead is responsible for the young people in their charge. The needs, requirements, safeguarding and safety of the young people we work with are our primary concerns.

The Behaviour Support Lead will support staff to support young people to learn, develop and achieve while they are at the Young Lewisham Project.

Ensure the provision of an enjoyable, varied, interesting and challenging training programme for young people.

A key part of the role will involve managing challenging behaviour of students, having strategies in place to support them and ensure engagement in sessions. Supporting colleagues to enable them to deliver the activities and workshops.

**Duties**

To support workshop staff and develop a structured training programme and related activities, assist with teaching the course content and compile evidence of young people’s work as appropriate.

To administer all aspects of any qualification requirements pertaining to the programme they are working on as regards to OCN or other qualifications frameworks. The Operations Manager will oversee and support this.

To offer individual advice/guidance, information and mentoring where appropriate and offer support in their efforts to seek employment, training or further education and maintain resources to facilitate this.

To contribute to completing session plans and end of session review forms and ensure that any monitoring information for reporting to funders is captured and delivered in a timely and efficient manner.

To positively challenge sexist, racist and homophobic attitudes and those which may discriminate against people with a learning or physical disability.

To ensure you attend regular supervisory/support meetings with Workshop tutors and your line manager, attend staff meetings and relevant training as appropriate.

To provide input to risk assessments with colleagues and Operations Manager and have knowledge of the correct use of the premises and equipment with regard to personal welfare in respect of Health and Safety on and off site. To keep workshops tidy and fit for purpose.

To adhere to the policies of the Young Lewisham Project and seek clarification from their line manager if in any doubt.

To feed social media content and ideas into the Projects wider social media strategy.

To take part in and on occasions lead off-site activities and residential trips. This includes the planning and supervision of off-road riding trips, if relevant to the role.

**GENERAL**

In carrying out the above role, the post holder will:

- Hold a current enhanced DBS certificate to be renewed every three years.
- Have relevant qualifications or 2 year’s previous experience in a Youth Work or Education Role working with young people - Particularly those with additional needs or challenging behaviour
- Adhere to and ensure the implementation of Young Lewisham Project’s organisational policies and procedures within their role.
