Lawrence Hill, United Kingdom SARSAS Full time

**Trans, Non-binary and Intersex & Gender Variant Group**

**Lead Facilitator**

**We are currently seeking a Trans, Non-Binary, Intersex & Gender Variant Group**

**Lead Facilitator to join the SARSAS team to deliver a weekly peer support group**

**for trans, non-binary, intersex or gender variant (TNBI) victim-survivors of**

**sexual violence. You will lead on running this group, with co-facilitation and**

**support from another member of our team.**

The primary focus of this role will be to deliver and facilitate a new peer support group specifically for adult TNBI victim-survivors. Your role would be to lead on this group facilitation, with support from another member of staff during group sessions, and with wider team support on the overall project. This is the first role of its kind within SARSAS and we are keen to ensure you are supported in the best way possible; you will be offered role specific training and support as needed. You will not be the only person working towards greater TNBI inclusion and accessibility within our team.

You will be provided with clinical supervision with an external supervisor to support you. This supervisor will be somebody of your choosing, approved by SARSAS, and you may like them to have similar lived experience of being trans, non-binary or intersex themselves.

The structure and format of the group has been proposed in response to a series of SARSAS run focus groups with TNBI victim-survivors who identified the value of a peer support space run by somebody who is trans, non-binary, intersex or gender variant themselves. The group will alternate each week from face-to-face (Bristol) to online (Microsoft Teams) on an evening during the working week (Mon-Fri) and run for 16 weeks. Your hours will include this evening group and other office hours to fall on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. The post is for 25 weeks to account for training, induction, annual leave, and evaluation.

This peer support-group is part of a wider movement within our organisation to better support TNBI victim-survivors. We know that many TNBI individuals have experienced discrimination from the media, specialist services and society that act as a barrier for getting the support they deserve. We are listening to and working more closely with individuals from the TNBI community to address this and are ready to progress the findings from this work. We hope you will be interested in joining us.

**About you**

You will identify as trans, non-binary, intersex or gender variant, and have some experience of working with people in need of care and support, and ideally people who have experienced trauma. You will have some knowledge of the impacts of trauma and an understanding of both the barriers TNBI victim-survivors may face in accessing support and the challenges many TNBI people face day to day. You will have a passion for supporting others facing these challenges.

You will have experience of running groups and recognise the power of groupwork and shared experience within a person’s healing journey. You will have the personal and professional skills to support and empower clients through groupwork, peer support and use of psychoeducational tools, enabling clients to achieve positive outcomes in areas such as wellbeing, safety, empowerment, confidence and reduced isolation.

**About SARSAS**

SARSAS exists to relieve the trauma and distress and help rebuild the lives of survivors who live in Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and

BANES, who have experienced any form of sexual violence, at any point in their lives.

SARSAS also campaigns and raises awareness about rape and sexual violence to change the narrative about sexual violence and enable survivors’ voices to be heard.

Partnership work with a variety of agencies locally and nationally is a priority to enable social change.

SARSAS works to feminist principles: this underpins both what our service is and how it is run. Our work is guided by a trauma-informed approach which understands how traumatic experiences can impact on survivors and keeps an awareness of the effects of trauma at the forefront of our approach to support.
