Applications are invited for two substantive Advanced Practitioner Healthcare Scientists (Histological Dissection) within LCL. This is an excellent opportunity to join the largest provider of specialist histological pathology services in Cheshire and Merseyside.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative advanced practitioner Biomedical or Clinical Scientists who possess excellent communication skills. The successful applicants will have considerable leadership experience within a laboratory setting and hold an IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma (ASD) in Histological Dissection.

Advanced Practitioners undertake a wide range of complex scientific procedures which result in the correct interpretation of biological samples. Their decisions contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and the investigation of other pathological processes. They will dissect the full range of specimens from all specialties (Category A-E) as required and competent.

There are two areas of leadership and management which will be interviewed for. One role will be the Lead Training Officer for Cellular Pathology - taking responsibility for the development for the directorate’s training and education strategy, through collaborating with service leads to ensure the successful completion of routine and strategic training and education.

The second role will be responsible for the management of the specimen reception and dissection laboratories, ensuring effective processes are in place to provide high quality, timely specimen flow adhering to departmental KPIs.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Key responsibilities
1. Work with Senior Management to provide expertise within the service area.
2. Undertake a wide range of complex scientific procedures which result in the interpretation of biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and the investigation of other pathological processes. They will dissect the full range of specimens from all specialties (Category A-E) as required and competent.

1. Communicate using a wide range of complex scientific and medical terminology to clinical colleagues including pathologists, surgeons and radiologists ensuring full comprehension and appropriate action.

1. Play a lead role in the education, training and development of Biomedical Scientists and junior medical staff in the macroscopic description, dissection and sampling of specimens.

1. Play an active role in the service’s training and education programme

1. Plays a lead role in co-ordination and management of collection of tissue for research purposes

Scope of Practice
1. Independent interpretation of macroscopic biopsies and surgical resections (both benign and malignant) from the relevant specimens within the agreed scope of practice

1. Provides independent expert opinion to clinical colleagues to enable management of patient care and provides expert opinion to medical colleagues to determine treatment of patients.

1. The dissection knowledge and skills of this post is equivalent to a qualified Consultant Histopathologist and the Advanced Practitioner will be expected to be working to current Royal College of Pathologists best practice guidance.

Person Specification

**Qualifications**:
1. IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma in Histopathology Dissection
2. IBMS Diploma of Expert practice in Histological Dissection
3. HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
4. MSc (or equivalent) in relevant specialty
5. Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science
6. Post-graduate management qualification or equivalent experience

Experience
1. Minimum 48 months dissection experience including benign and malignant resections
2. Competency assessments for RCPath specimen types (Cat A-E) in relevant specialties demonstrated
3. Evidence of training Biomedical Scientists and
