Job Opportunity

**Gallery Room Invigilation**:

- Ensure visitors, contractors, and staff enjoy the collection safely by challenging and de-escalating unsafe activities, and escalating reportable incidents appropriately.
- Answer visitor queries with a thorough knowledge of the building layout, permanent collection, and current exhibitions/events.
- Proactively patrol assigned gallery areas, remain vigilant, and conduct regular visual checks of the artwork.

**Public Entrance/Exits (Internal and External Positions)**:

- Set up public entrances/exits for opening hours and ensure proper closure at the end of the day.
- Perform bag searches and manage security arches/wands according to site guidelines.
- Manage queues and scan tickets as needed.
- Conduct external and internal patrols as required.
- Ensure all visitors adhere to the Visitor Admissions Policy, including directing visitors to the cloakroom, deterring unauthorized entry, and confiscating prohibited items.
- Provide a first-line response to incidents within the Gallery’s property line.

**Back-of-House Security (Static Positions)**:

- Ensure staff, contractors, visitors, and guests meet access control requirements and carry out ID checks and logging.
- Issue and log temporary passes.
- Maintain vehicle logs and log deliveries.
- Undertake and log security patrols or opening/closing security checks.
- Use Microsoft Outlook and other IT equipment confidently to maintain accurate data logs and checks.
- Maintain continued invigilation of positions, including monitoring cameras when required.

**General Responsibilities Across All Functions**:

- Adhere to the Gallery’s Admissions Policy and access control measures.
- Provide a first-line response to alarms and incidents, including damage to the collection, threatening behavior, protests, social media pranks, lost property, and safeguarding issues.
- Report suspicious behavior and activities to management.
- De-escalate complaints and manage conflicts.
- Support opening/closing security procedures and ensure smooth evacuations, promoting fire safety measures.
- Report all accidents and near-misses to the onsite Duty Manager team and respond to First Aid incidents as needed.

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Maintain the highest standard of personal presentation, hygiene, and smartness of uniform to uphold the image of Securitas and the customer.
- Follow and maintain health and safety procedures at all times.
- Record and report all faults, health and safety hazards, and unsafe working practices to the supervisor/manager.
- Maintain confidentiality and never discuss security operations at the National Gallery with the public or non-security staff members. Direct all press queries to the Press Department.

Essential Skills

- Must hold a valid SIA licence.
