**Overall Purpose of the Role**:
The heart of the role of Attendance & Engagement Lead at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy can be found in these key responsibilities:
**Key Duties**:

- To improve attendance so that it is in line with national expectations in the first instance and then consistently at 97%
- To develop and promote positive attitudes towards academy attendance with students and their parents / carers so that attendance for all groups of students is in line nationally
- To oversee and coordinate efficient and effective implementation of the academy attendance policy and procedures

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Work directly with staff, parents and students in order to build positive attendance patterns, where all stakeholders can see a direct link between strong attendance and academic outcomes
- Attend Leadership and SLT meetings regularly to report on attendance and contribute to strategic discussion
- Line management of the attendance office and all attendance matters in partnership with the Vice Principal
- Implement and maintain a programme of regular monitoring and intervention for attendance and punctuality, communicating with the Vice Principal, Attendance Officer, HOYs, SENCO, Inclusion Coordinator and Safeguarding Officer
- Support the Vice Principal with the implementation and administration of the rewards system to support positive behaviour, progress and attendance.
- Lead on attendance assemblies half termly
- To devise in-academy activities to promote the attendance of individual and groups of students.
- To identify students with attendance barriers, assess underlying causes of poor attendance and punctuality in individual cases, target resources through effective intervention, review success in a timely way and adapt plans to maximise attendance and improve punctuality.
- To implement effective intervention involving liaison with parents/ carers, social services or other agencies to address the specific needs of individual children and devising and developing a range of alternative actions to promote attendance
- Conduct home visits and write risk assessments where needed in order to secure strong attendance to the academy
- To report on attendance data, impact evaluation present and lead on initiatives and proposals alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team.
- To arrange attendance support meetings for families in order to pursue concerns about poor attendance, agreeing and recording next steps so that parents are clear on any subsequent further action
- To prepare and assist, if required, cases of non-school attendance for Magistrates Court. Attend and give evidence in court
- To develop and promote a strong working relationship with the local authority staff with responsibilities for attendance
- To maintain exceptionally high standards in record keeping, letter writing and report writing for provision to the academy and governors, Local Authority, court and multi-agency forums
- To endorse, uphold and promote all academy policies and to lead on the full implementation of the attendance policy.
- To ensure accountability in maintaining high standards of register taking and effective attendance monitoring, including those students in alternative provisions in school (i.e. Inclusion provision, Forest Schools), and out of school.
- To Line manage the attendance team, conducting weekly line management meetings
- To meet weekly with Heads of Year, holding them to account for their role with attendance and supporting them to improve the attendance of their year groups
- To report into the Vice Principal in a timely way with any concerns that are not resolved and need more support

**Technology**
- Keep up-to-date with technological change and administrative systems
- Become a champion for the MIS system, ensuring that reports and letters are easily accessible for staff and that truancy checks and other vital communication is sent to parents in a timely way
- Utilise Information Communications Technology across all duties to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of work practices

**Support**
- Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people
- Contribute to the development of others by sharing professional learning, expertise and skills
- Undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the academy improvement plan by taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available

**Review & Evaluation**
- Participate in current arrangements for appraisal. In conjunction with the Line Manager
- Take responsibility for personal professional development.
