**Role Purpose**

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced systems administrator who is also keen to get some exposure to team leading and to grow their level of responsibility.

**Personal specification**

You should be a good a communicator and have pro-active approach to your work. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate some past exposure to management either as a team leader, line manager or having some project management experience.

You will be reliable and be able to deliver on your own tasks to a high level of quality, but you are also a team player and will do whatever you can to help the team achieve its goals.

The company is working in a hybrid model and so you will be supporting systems running in the office, but also in remote-hosted systems.

Occasionally you need to be ready to work after working hours including weekends (planned work or resolving production issues).

**Accountabilities**
- Responsible for all aspects of operating system management (CentOS, Rocky Linux, Debian, Windows Server)
- Providing and designing solutions and, where appropriate, workarounds for problems with no straightforward solution
- Use good domain knowledge of Linux systems administration to deliver tasks, identify and solve problems that may arise
- Display Linux based systems proficiency, competency with associated toolkits and company specific systems, tools and technologies to deliver support and contribute to the team
- Responsible for overseeing an Office 365 environment, troubleshooting and configuration
- Overseeing technical quality and timely delivery of projects and products
- Ensuring that overseen systems are secure and are kept up-to-date with the latest security patches
- Responsible for overseeing security vulnerability scanner with pro-active approach to already detected and new threats
- Operate at autonomous level when analyzing, breaking down tasks and solving problems

**Experience and Qualifications**

**Essential**
- Strong experience within a System Administrator position

Solid understanding of Linux operating systems (file system, best practices in terms of permissions management, management of system logs, services etc.)
Good understanding of Windows Server operating systems with a good ability to troubleshoot spotted issues
- Good understanding of IP networks including the TCP/IP stack, ISO/OSI model
- Strong skills and experience regarding systems security (vulnerability scanning, penetration tests, pro-active approach regarding security-related aspects)
- Excellent team player, positive and collaborative with pro-active & ‘can do’ attitude
- Strong professional work ethic
- Able to articulate technical issues in terms of business risk and opportunities
- Pragmatic problem solver
- Able to assimilate information and share with colleagues

Self-motivated, proactive, work on own initiative following best practices

**Experience with**:

- Google Cloud Platform (preferred) or AWS/Azure (load-balancer, Compute Engine, networks, G. firewall)
- Database administration - ideally MySQL
- Web serversNginx / Apache incl. installation of SSL certificates

Unix Shell Scripting (Bash, Python etc.)
Source Version Control (GitLab/GitHub)
VPNs (IPsec, OpenVPN) - min. good understanding
Firewalls - ‘IP Tables’, ‘firewalld’, SE Linux
Routing, DNS, DHCP and Network Security - min. good understanding
Management of Hyper-V hypervisors or VMware machines
Monitoring tools - Nagios

**Desirable**
- MS Exchange and Active Directory experience
- Good understanding of Jenkins
Kubernetes clusters

VPC and subnets (public and private scopes)

Cloud load balancers and firewalls

Understanding communication patterns in a cloud (Ingress / Egress)
- Infrastructure As a Code - using Terraform, Chef
- Working experience with Docker
- Service Desk Management using Jira or similar
- Experience with Agile software development methodology
- Knowledge of ITIL framework

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £65,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
