Activities Co-ordinator Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated & enthusiastic individual to work as an Activities Coordinator Assistant in the Stroke Pathway Assessment & Rehabilitation Centre (SPARC). SPARC is a 31 bedded, specialist stroke rehabilitation unit which forms part of the wider Sheffield Integrated Community Stroke Service.
The post holder will work alongside the therapy team providing appropriate activities to contribute to the physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of stroke survivors.
The post will involve assisting in the development, organisation and provision of one-to-one & group activity sessions that are well planned and safe for all participants.
The post entails working closely with patients and other members of the multi disciplinary team and therefore requires excellent communication skills.

Assist to development, organisation and provision of 1:1 and group supportive activities and enable patients to participate as appropriate to their physical health and personal preferences.
Establish effective relationships with patients, using excellent communication skills to identify individual’s interests, strengths, areas of concern/need and help them to participate in positive and meaningful activities.
Use motivational techniques to engage patients and encourage participation.
Co-ordinate and support volunteer participation in activity sessions.
Contribute to information-giving and provide non-clinical support as required.
Collaborate with colleagues to identify health and wellbeing issues for the patient group and to provide patients with access to appropriate health promotion materials.
Assist in providing ward environments in which patients feel safe, welcomed, respected and encouraged, and that facilitate supportive social interaction between patients.
Ensure recreational, craft and other non-medical equipment used by patients is maintained for safety and cleaned in line with relevant policies e.g. infection prevention, food hygiene.
Co-ordinate agreed therapeutic hospital-based activities provided by internal or external agencies e.g. art therapy, music workshops, and liaise with the complementary therapy service.
