- Job description- As part of the Geomatics Terrestrial Survey team, you will support colleagues in Collaborative Delivery Teams, Area Partnership and Strategic Overview and Asset Performance teams, as well as all other areas of the business, in the specification, scoping and procurement of topographic survey data. These surveys form a critical part of the work we do to protect communities from future flooding.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in surveying to join a specialised team to provide sound advice and guidance to internal teams and work with our external partners. The Terrestrial Survey team is a dispersed team, which allows it to focus on the Environment Agency’s Area teams but provides a strong national network for technical consistency and personal development. You will need to be well organized, highly motivated and a good communicator with a professional attitude. You will have in-depth familiarity with topographic survey data and channel survey data as used in modelling.
- The team- Geomatics sits within the National Monitoring Survey team which delivers all national once monitoring activities for the Environment Agency. We deliver geomatics services to the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community. We are focused on delivering the highest quality data and providing a fully integrated approach to the timely delivery of geo-information. Combining cutting-edge technology with expert personnel, we work to the highest technical standards to provide accurate and high-quality products and technical advice.
- Experience/skills required- Qualified in relevant scientific discipline with proven experience in surveying and a knowledge of survey data used in hydraulic modelling.
Essential experience and skills;
- Familiarity with the Environment Agency’s Survey Specification.
- Experience in project management.
- You will be an adaptable team player, with a strong sense of customer focus and the ability to communicate technical information effectively with people at all levels.

Other experience desirable includes understanding the key role that National Monitoring Survey (Geomatics) plays in ensuring high-quality and reliable data products for the Environment Agency, experience of scoping watercourse related survey (or comparable infrastructure surveying) and experience in the procurement and management of surveying services. You will work as part of a nationally dispersed team but will be expected to be a self-starter and able to work independently.
- Contact and additional information- The role will primarily support Yorkshire (YOR) and North-East (NEA) Areas but may include supporting Areas nationwide as required. The role may require occasional travel to EA offices and sites.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
