Casual Artz+ Assistant

Dorchester, United Kingdom Dorset Council Full time

**About The Role**:
This role exists to support children who are disabled to take part in arts and sports activities as part of the Artz+ Sportz+ holiday programme, which takes place during every school holiday all over the county of Dorset.

**What's in it for you**:
This programme provides great opportunities for children who have a wide variety of special needs to have a go at activities that they might not be able to access in mainstream holiday programmes. The impact of this work is wide-reaching, allowing children to participate in their own time, have fun, make new friends, and feel supported and safe while being challenged to try new activities and learn new skills.

During a typical session, the Artz+ Assistant will be required to enable the child to participate throughout, supervise the child during lunch times, and most importantly, ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children throughout the activity.

The Artz + Sportz+ programme provides arts and sports activity at a variety of community venues across the county during holiday periods, as well as regular Saturday morning sessions.

**What you can expect to be doing**:
The key responsibilities are to:

- support children who are disabled to fully engage in the workshop activity
- ensure children act responsibly and safely during the session
- follow instructions from the artists and coaches leading the activities
- ensure that the children are hydrated during the session
- to safeguard the child at all times

Each session will be led by two Team Leaders who are there to guide, assist, and safeguard the group activities and support the Artz+ Sportz+ Assistants. They will be there to brief you on the children you will be supporting, assign you tasks, and outline the activities of the day.

Typically, there may be 7 to 10 other Artz+ Assistants/Support workers during a full session. The assistants will support each other, sharing knowledge. No support worker should find themselves alone with a child, and safeguarding is an essential element of this work. All staff are encouraged to take part in the activities with the children and fully engage with the children they are assigned to.

**About you**:
***
Artz+ Sportz+ relies on supportive teamwork and communication where collaboration is important. The work is rewarding and requires patience, a sense of fun, and an enjoyment of working with children.

**Further Information**:
We are flexible in our interview approaches but typically interview via Teams at a time that suits the applicant.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. We offer an interview to everyone who declares a disability and meets the essential criteria for the role.

We also look for applicants who share our commitment to our behaviours. We will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.
