Principal Network Specialist

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our IT Operations team as **Principal Specialist - Network & Security **on a temporary basis for 12 months.
As an experienced Network Engineer, you will join a motivated team of technicians across various disciplines and levels to provide first class 3rd line, ITIL aligned support and project work whilst also helping shape strategy.
The role will be based with colleagues in our Sunderland office, a minimum of 2 days per week with the rest focusing on where you can best deliver, whilst still allowing for the required work life balance. The role operates Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with 1 hour lunch per day. **Note this role also includes joining an out of hours on-call rota, with allowance.**
**Key responsibilities of the role include**:
- Provide 3rd/4th line BAU support.
- Lead and participate in projects within the team.
- Securing network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access.
- Designing and implementing new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment.
- Maximising network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with network architects on network optimisation.
- Undertaking data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments using information from multiple sources.
- Supporting and administering firewall environments in line with IT security policy.
- Reporting network operational status’ by gathering and prioritizing information and managing projects.
- Upgrading data network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases.
- Configuring routing and switching equipment, hosted IP voice services and firewalls.
- Providing remote support to on-site engineers, third parties and end users/customers during installation.
- Providing remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation.
- Undertaking capacity management and audits of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centres.
- Liaising with project management teams, third-line engineers and service desk engineers on a regular basis.

We’re looking for an experienced and knowledgeable individual, able to demonstrate technical operations experience within multi-site network environments with industry certifications such as Cisco (CCNA, CCNP).

Technical experience/knowledge should include:
- SDWAN and WIFI management.
- Fortinet Firewall support and implementation.
- Routing protocol implementation and troubleshooting.
- Site to Site VPN (ISPEC) management.
- Edge and Branch Cisco devices, namely Cisco ISR (IOS) and knowledge of knowledge of OSPF, HSRP, BGP, CoPP, VRF, VLANs, ACLs, STP, VTP.
- Checkpoint firewall management i.e. VPN, upgrades and maintenance.
- Delivery of Network Security technology support or project delivery, with experience in firewalls and ideally threat and vulnerability assessment.
- Cloud Web Proxy e.g. Zscaler.
- VOIP Solutions e.g. Storm.
- Cloud networking such as Azure/AWS.
- Scripting skills (Python).
- Monitoring tools e.g. Solarwinds.
