**The Context**:
This role sits within the Cultural Engagement (CE) Strategic Business Unit (SBU). CE brings together our portfolio of work in arts, education, English, and research. Our Arts Sector team works with UK and international arts and culture stakeholders to deliver four global programmes: Culture Connects supports artistic and cultural exchange between the UK and countries internationally; Spotlights on Culture engages and represents the UK’s cultural diversity and creativity at high-profile cultural events; Creative Economy analyses creative ecosystems and highlights emerging trends and areas of convergence and difference between creative economies; Arts Responds to Global Challenges celebrates the transformative power of arts and culture to change attitudes and supports the protection and promotion of cultural expression, diversity and heritage at risk.

To ensure sustainability for the future we are implementing a refreshed funding model to support our programming. The British Council’s core funding model is changing, meaning more of our work will be focused on the developing world and supporting the UK’s overseas development agenda. This requires us to develop new skills to build on our arts sector expertise. To ensure we can continue to showcase the UK’s creativity in the developed world, including the EU, Japan and the Gulf States, we need to establish new sources of income, including growth in income from private sources, trusts and foundations and contracts.

This is supported by the organisation’s charitable status and corporate fundraising capability. This will enable us to better respond to the big themes and issues that matter for cultural relations worldwide. The Head of Portfolio Planning and Reporting role is crucial in helping us realise this change, working closely with colleagues across our global network to enable effective planning and quality reporting that captures the impact of our work.

**The Opportunity**:
**Role Purpose**:
This role provides the Director Arts and the Global Arts leadership team with data, information and insight to ensure that they can effectively manage and develop the global portfolio of Arts Programmes and resources, deliver the Global Arts KPIs and grow the portfolio of partnerships and other income sources. This role will drive change and improvement around our planning and reporting processes, working with Arts sector colleagues across the British Council’s global network to build capability and establish new ways of working.

**Accountabilities**:
**Strategy and planning**:

- Lead on provision of Arts input to the Cultural Engagement (CE) and corporate planning and reporting cycle, ensuring that high quality Arts data and content is supplied for Quarterly Business Reports (QBRs), Corporate reports, business plans and other outputs as required.
- Provide Arts input to CE Global Programme planning processes. Advise on and support development of Arts Global Programme business plans.

**Consultancy, analysis and problem solving**:

- Provide Global Arts leadership team with regular analyses of performance of Arts Global Programme portfolio against key indicators including distribution of resources and progress against KPI, impact and income targets.
- Analyse distribution of Arts Global Programme budgets at regional and country level, working closely with Head of Finance, Arts, to support annual and three-year budget planning.
- Track and report on progress against Global Arts KPIs, highlighting potential issues. Work closely with Head of Evidence, Arts and regional leads to ensure that KPI targets are embedded in planning by Arts teams in regions. Provide commentary for quarterly reports to CE leadership and FCDO.
