Kent Police & Essex Police have recently transformed their digital forensic service to adapt and take advantage of the latest technology and infrastructure available. An exciting opportunity has arisen for individual(s) to undertake the role of Digital Forensic Specialist within the Digital Forensic Service at Chelmsford Essex Police Headquarters.

The new Digital Forensic Services’ structure has been designed to provide the best possible career progression and CPD framework to ensure you will have the tools and necessary experience to carry out first class digital forensic investigations.

Digital devices and information communication technology are present in investigations across the spectrum of criminality. Your focus, as a Digital Forensic Specialist will include examining complex computer platforms, mobile phone handsets, games consoles, digital CCTV systems, satellite navigation systems and more. As digital devices continue to innovate and evolve it will be critical that you are able to adapt and learn new emerging technologies to meet the requirements of the role.

Digital Forensic Specialist - Central Hub - Chelmsford - Shift Pattern

The Chelmsford Operations role will support officers in premises searches and the seizure of exhibits as well as the collection of volatile evidence at scene. This support may be via telephone, remotely via video link, or by physically attending scene. This physical attendance can be at irregular hours and as such flexibility is a key attribute. When not deployed operationally, the Ops team will work flexitime Monday to Friday with core hours noted as 08:00 to 16:00. The operations role includes weekend and bank holiday on-call provision. You will be expected to work flexibly to support operational teams on days of action such as early morning warrants where required. Uniform will be provided and access to the Operations Team vehicle(s) will be available for operational deployment.

The Technical Lead will be working closely with the Digital Forensics Technical Lead, your Technical Lead counterpart in Kent Police, and the Quality Team to ensure that digital forensic work is completed to the highest standard and in compliance to the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice to deliver a quality service to the Criminal Justice System. Many of our digital forensic scientific activities are compliant to the FSR Code and ISO17025, but we are expanding our scope to incorporate new locations and further scientific activities. Your role will be wide reaching and vital in helping to achieve this by utilising our Quality Management System to collaborate with multi skilled digital forensic teams across Essex Police, advising on decisions, conducting audits, problem solving, undertaking proficiency testing, assisting in validation activities, and liaising with external contacts. This role will work Flexitime Monday to Friday with core hours noted as 08:00 to 16:00.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and dynamic individual who can demonstrate the following skills and/or experience with the following areas:
Advanced technical ability, including knowledge of computer and/or mobile phone hardware, software and operating systems.

You will also have experience of writing technical statements/reports and may have given evidence at court.

You will have an understanding of the quality standard ISO 17025 and how this affects the role.

You will be required to develop and maintain your competence under these requirements ensuring best practice is shared amongst colleagues. It is expected that you will update your technical knowledge of specialised Digital Forensic procedures and advancements within the Digital Forensic field.

To balance these technical attributes, you will need to be a highly motivated team player with good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. You will have the ability to manage a high caseload and be able to utilise coaching methods to provide an environment that is both supportive and constructive to other members of the team.

In this role you will be dealing with highly sensitive and distressing information which requires you to have a high degree of emotional resilience. You will also be required to work to tight deadlines and be able to multi-task, dealing with competing demand and court requests.
