Sudbury Surgery is looking for a confidential and cheerful additional member of staff to join our clinical team as a Phlebotomist

The 11 hours available are:

- Thursday 8:30am - 2:00pm
- Friday 8:30am - 2:00pm

**Main duties of the job**

As a Phlebotomist, you will be required to obtain blood specimens by performing venepunctures and verifying test requisitions by comparing information with medical records. Further details are shown within the job description.

**Job description**

The Phlebotomist will work under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols; the Phlebotomist will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities include**

Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with medical records bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.

Verifies patient

Obtains blood specimens by performing venepunctures

Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.

Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.

Tracks collected specimens by initialling, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Serves and protects the practice community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards.

Enhances phlebotomy service and practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

**Person Specification**

**Experience**

**Essential**

Qualifications:

- General education (eg GCSEs) to grade C or above
- Proof of commitment to professional development

**Experience**:

- Dealing with the public/patients
- Previous phlebotomy experience

Knowledge/Skills:

- Competent in basic phlebotomy duties required for the post
- Excellent communications skills
- Willing to develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role
- Able to communicate routine information that requires tact ad persuasive skills, or where there may be barriers to understanding
- Able to organise own time and workload and cope with last minute changes

Education and Training:

- Willingness to undergo education / training for both Practice and Service needs
- Willingness to work towards professional and performance objectives (Appraisal)

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: £12.26-£13.10 per hour
