The SEN Support Staff:
For this SEN Support Staff role, you must have experience working with young people with additional needs, such as Autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties, PMLD, communication difficulties and dyslexia. There is also a high proportion of children in the schoolwith SEMH needs, so you must be a patient, compassionate SEN Support Staff who can understand the needs of the children you are working with and assist them with an understanding, trauma-informed approach.
The SEN Support Staff Role:
As an SEN Support Staff, you will be assisting teachers in the classroom with delivering lessons and managing classroom behaviour, which is often challenging. You will also work with SEN pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, providing intervention supportor carrying out assessments for reading and writing. As SEN Support Staff, you will also work alongside the pastoral team to provide effective wellbeing support, and engage in wider-school activities where required.
The School:
This Alternative Provision in Walsall caters for KS3 and KS4 pupils with SEMH needs, SEN and behavioural challenges that cannot be met by mainstream education. There is a high proportion of pupils with Autism and learning difficulties that the school requiresadditional SEN Support Staff to assist with. There is extensive CPD to further your development and help you find your feet in the role.
