**Job summary**:
At DfE, we are proud of the commitment we make to diversity and inclusion and of the progress we have made. We have active & vibrant staff networks, special leave policies and workplace adjustments put in place for those who need them. We are continuing to build a diverse DfE, in an inclusive environment which nurtures and realises potential in all, at all levels.

Equality and Diversity - Department for Education

We are striving for world-class education, training, care for everyone whatever your background. For a more productive economy and so everyone has the chance to reach their potential and live a more fulfilled life.

At Spring Budget 2023, the Chancellor announced a transformational expansion of childcare entitlements. This expansion will mean that, by September 2025, working parents of children from 9 months - 4 years will be entitled to 30 hours of free childcare a week.

One of the biggest delivery challenges is scaling up the workforce to meet demand. To take on this challenge, DfE is expanding its childcare workforce teams - with additional resource needed to scope, develop and deliver the boost in childcare workforce numbers that will be needed to bring about the transformational change to childcare provision.

The Department for Education (DfE) is looking for a talented, confident and experienced strategic marketing professional to lead a new team responsible for creating and directing a new recruitment campaign for childcare professionals across England

This role is an exciting opportunity to work at the very heart of Government, on a high profile priority in a major delivery department.

As a member of the Government Communication Service (GCS), you will champion best practice and adherence to the highest professional standards.

**Job description**:
You will lead communications on Childcare workforce and manage financial, commercial and professional assurance processes to recruit a range of agency support to generate insights, create a new recruitment and retention strategy, and deliver a new campaign. You will be responsible for leading and managing agencies, so they deliver an integrated campaign and meet the brief and KPIs. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all low/no cost communications options are explored, developed and delivered.

The wider Communications Directorate is made up of communication professionals across a whole range of specialisms, from insight and evaluation to external affairs and social media, based in London, Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham who, between them, support all DfE priorities.

You will lead and manage a Senior Communications Manager overseeing their activity and performance to ensure GCS professional standards are met. In time we expect the team to grow in size and you will need to be confident in leading a larger team. You will be expected to demonstrate clear impact and results from your team’s work.

You will report into the Grade 6 Head of Strategic Communications and Campaigns for FE, HE and Early Years and Childcare, within the Strategic Communications and Campaigns team.

As one of our communication leaders, and as part of the GCS, you will take collective responsibility for the Communications Directorate including championing best practice, ensuring professional standards are met and making sure ministers and senior officials receive high standards of service.

We are a supportive team and take the wellbeing and development of our staff seriously. There are lots of opportunities for training and professional development both within DfE and as part of the GCS.

**About the role**:
As an experienced communicator with a proven track record, ideally with experience in public sector recruitment, you will design and deliver a high-performing strategic marketing campaign. Your work will raise awareness of the benefits of a career in the childcare sector among target audiences, change perceptions of a career in the sector and encourage consideration of joining the profession. You will establish key conversion and pain points in the customer journey and work with digital services teams on the CRM strategy to support the journey through the recruitment funnel.

This is an exciting and complex brief, which you will be able to shape from the start. You will need to devel
