We are seeking a **Day Centre Catering Assistant **to assist in supporting our operations of meal preparation at our Mackenney Day Centre which provides meals for our Day Centre service users, as well as older people in the Medway community.

Within this role you will provide an agreed level of domestic support to the older people that use our services. This would include providing shopping and housework services for them within their own homes, which enables & promotes their independence, whilst also positively enhancing their health & wellbeing.

**Job Type**:Part-Time, 10 hours per week, 9am - 2pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and holiday cover where required

**Location**: The Mackenney Day Centre, Woodlands Road, Gillingham, kent, ME7 2BX

**Hourly rate**: £9.86 per hour (to increase in April 2023)

**Required**:

- Demonstrable knowledge & familiarity on the safe use of kitchen equipment.
- Commitment to producing nutritious home cooked meals.
- Previous experience of food preparation.
- Previous experience of cooking for large numbers.
- To have a flexible approach, with a willingness to provide cover for colleagues at short notice.
- Ability to work alone and use your own initiative, while also being able to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.

**Key Responsibilities**
- To assist the Cook to prepare meals for the external meal delivery service.
- To prepare sandwiches daily for the snack pack service.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen equipment, including utensils and crockery.
- Ensure efficient use of food to avoid wastage and maintain quality.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out to specific hygienic conditions.
- Ensure correct portioning and serve meals in the allocated area.
- Work as part of the catering/kitchen team as well as independently as required and according to the weekend cover rota.
- Work with placements and volunteers, encouraging a happy efficient atmosphere.
- Understand and respond to Health & Safety requirements at all times.
- Undertake any other related tasks as and when required.
- Will be required to work flexible hours, as necessary.
