We are looking for a Collections Officer to ensure the excellent care of the RSC's collection. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in the preservation and documentation of our treasured collections, ensuring the highest standards of care and protection.
This unique opportunity will allow you to delve into the world-famous RSC collection. You will get up close and personal with our costume, props and art collection which is one of the most significant Shakespeare and theatre collections in the world. Find out more about our collection here.
What will I be doing?
- Conduct preventative conservation and collections documentation ensuring the highest standards of care and protection.
- Ensure up to date record keeping on delegated activity and clear information management.
- Support evaluation, monitoring and reporting requirements about the collection for internal and external stakeholders.
- Compile statistics on activity as required.
- Support the Curator and Collections Manager in the selection, interpretation, digitisation, preparation and installation of heritage-based displays for permanent or temporary display.
- Enable the use of collections engagement as a tool of inspiration, innovation and change.
- Facilitate staff, freelancers, volunteers and user visits when necessary.
What do I need?
- At least 2 years working in a voluntary or professional capacity in a museum, library or archive.
- Demonstrable experience in using and understanding the principles of collections care, including condition checking, object handling and housekeeping.
- _Ability to work by yourself without close or direct supervision._
- Experience of using SPECTRUM documentation procedures.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and multi-task, working as part of a team to achieve targets.
- A passion for heritage and bringing the past alive through the development and use of the collections.
This is a full-time, permanent role, working 35 hours per week. The role is based in Stratford upon Avon and will require mostly on-site working. There may be occasional evening and weekend working required as well as lone working.
The role will require an Enhanced DBS check and will involve lone working.
