**Job Purpose**:
The Interventions for Vulnerable Youth (IVY) service is a specialist psychological and social work service for young people with complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and who pose a risk to others. It offers risk assessment, consultation and management and direct intervention and psychological assessment. The service also extends this support to families.

By providing specialist, therapeutic support, the IVY service aims to ensure young people and the professionals supporting them have access to the best advice, assessment and interventions addressing mental health and forensic risk and needs.

The consultant will be responsible for providing consultant level psychology input to the delivery and development of IVY the service.

You will be a senior leader in the service, helping to coordinate the work and providing supervision and guidance for the internal multi-disciplinary team.

The role will involve:

- Type 1. Chairing multi-disciplinary risk consultation clinics each week, providing knowledge and insight into complex cases.
- Type 2 and 3. Assessment and intervention with high-risk young people (risk to others).
- You will provide clinical supervision for the team and provide governance and support on summary risk reports produced by the IVY team.
- You will help deliver research and evaluation of the project
- You may represent the project and its services at different forums including conferences.

**Main Responsibilities**:
Clinical Leadership
- To chair, lead and support consultation to professionals and service users regarding mental health, risk assessment formulation and risk management. This is the primary role and will take up a high proportion of time.
- To provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of the psychological service by all members of the team.
- To participate as a senior clinician in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service for clients including advising both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organizational matters need addressing.
- To provide specialist advice, consultation and training to staff in the team.
- To provide expert consultation about the care of the client group to forums beyond the consultation clinics e.g. conferences and represent the service.
- To participate as appropriate in staff recruitment, both in the short-listing process and as a member of interview panels for staff.
- To initiate and implement service developments and projects within the service.

Research

The service is required to deliver two projects per year and there is opportunity to deliver high impact research.

**Educational and/or Professional Qualifications**

Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or HCPC.
- Registration with the HCPC

Desirable
- Further post-doctoral training, research and study across a range of areas, including forensic populations.

**Experience**
Essential
- Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups. Able and experienced in maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems.
- Experience of working with young people who present a risk of harm to others.
- Experience of delivering professional and clinical supervision.
- Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the young people.
