Southall, United Kingdom West London NHS Trust Full time

We are seeking to appoint a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to work with children and young people as part of the Ealing Intensive Therapeutic and Short Breaks Service (ITSBS) team. The team and post holder are based within the large multi-agency Ealing Service for Children with Additional Needs (ESCAN), Carmelita House, 21-22 The Mall, W5 2PJ. The ITSBS team is linked to the Ealing CAMHS Learning Disability team who are also based within ESCAN. Both teams are part of Ealing’s multi-agency Service for Children with Additional Needs which is at the forefront of innovation in developing innovative and multi-agency approaches to supporting children with special needs.

The Assistant Psychologist will work alongside a Specialist Clinical Psychologist (who will supervise the post) and the post will involve contributing to the development and clinical work of the Intensive Therapeutic and Short Breaks Service (ITSBS). The ITSBS is funded by the local authority and is a collaboration between Clinical Psychology and Social Care. It seeks to prevent residential care for young people with learning disabilities who are presenting with significant challenging behaviour and/or emotional difficulties and to support them to live at home and in their community. The post holder will also contribute to the generic work offered by the CAMHS-LD Team.

As a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist within ITSBS you will undertake direct psychological assessment and interventions with children with complex needs and their families and carer networks, under the supervision and direction of an experienced Clinical Psychologist. You will also assist in clinically related administration, collection and analysis of outcome data, service evaluation and audit, and teaching and consultation to other professionals and agencies. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in service development, research and quality improvement projects. The post holder will also contribute to the generic work offered by the CAMHS-LD Team.

Ealing CAMHS is a borough-located service, and operates as part of a wider three-borough CAMHS service, including Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham, within West London NHS Trust. The Ealing CAMHS Team and Ealing CAMHS LD Team are strongly aligned with the core values of the Trust; togetherness, responsibility, excellence, and caring.

The CAMHS LD and ITSBS Teams, where this role sits, are both very friendly, supportive groups of highly committed clinicians The teams are committed to providing services that are accessible to everyone, and pride themselves on their creative and innovative ways of delivering high quality evidence based care for children, young people and families referred.

This ITSBS service is a collaboration between Clinical Psychology from CAMHS-LD and Social Care for Children with Disabilities (based in ESCAN). It has been running for over 10 years with successful outcomes, and has been referenced as a model of good practice in the NHS 10 year plan, Transforming Care good practice examples, and the Lenehan review. The Local Authority has allocated funding for the continuation of this work and there is a hope in the future that we can continue to develop this service to better meet the needs of the wider Transforming Care Cohort too.
