You will join the team responsible for the management of field telemetry equipment and hydrometric data collection, ensuring accurate and timely data and information is provided to customers of the Hydrometry & Telemetry Team (H&T). This role is a combination of field and office work.
We are looking for a passionate and driven individual who is keen to help us maintain our hydrometric network around East Anglia. A large proportion of your time will be spent working outdoors in all weathers, helping to maintain and upgrade our equipment. You will also gather, quality assure and provide scientific data to internal and external customers.
As a senior team member you will be required to manage your own workloads and projects, supervise and mentor colleagues, and demonstrate excellent problem solving skills. You will be based in a dispersed team who need to work closely together, but also you need to be comfortable working alone when needed.
Elements of asset management, public safety and delivery of national project upgrades are all current considerations of H&T delivery.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team- Our friendly Hydrometry and Telemetry teams collect data essential for the quantitative assessment of water in the environment. This information is used throughout the Agency and underpins a lot of the decisions that the Agency makes. The data we provide allows real time analysis to facilitate the issue of flood warnings or manage abstractions, as well as an archive service to inform thinking on water resource or flood risk planning.
- Experience/skills required- Ideally you will have experience in foundation Hydrometry and Telemetry activities and work methods, a scientific or engineering background and be experienced in designing, installing, and maintaining monitoring equipment.
The role will consist of a split of office, home based and field work. We require you to hold a full UK Drivers Licence. A fleet vehicle will be provided.
You will possess:

- Experience in managing large quantities of data
- Good knowledge of telemetry systems and confidence using environmental monitoring equipment
- Well-developed influencing and practical problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work outside often in demanding weather conditions, all year round.
- Confidence working in and near water
- Confidence driving in all weather conditions and to remote locations

Some understanding of incident management is desirable.
