Haddenham, United Kingdom People Plus Independent Living Services Full time

**Support Worker, CB6**
**£10.13 per hour**

About the service user
I am 18 years old and live with my family in Haddenham, near Ely. I have a diagnosis of childhood disintegrative disorder, which is a type of autism, severe learning difficulties and epilepsy (under good control on medication). I am non-verbal.
I am cared for by my family at home. I enjoy going for walks, visiting playgrounds, swimming and going for car rides. At home, I like watching tv, listening to music, playing outside on my swing and playing with water.
I need assistance with all personal care, and encouragement with independence skills and communication. I like to choose when I want to interact and when I want my own space, but I need to be supervised at all times to keep me safe.
Most of the time I feel happy and relaxed. However, occasionally I feel upset and my behaviour may become challenging. I need help to avoid this from happening and to manage the situation if it develops

Hours and rate of Pay
Live-in care for two weekends per month: 10 am Saturday to 6 pm Sunday. Additional weekend and/or weekday hours are flexible and can be discussed. You would have your own bedroom.
Daytime pay is £10.13 per hour, overnight pay £67.50 with adjustment for a disturbed night. I usually sleep through the night.

What you would be doing
You would be a companion for me at home and outdoors, supporting me with the activities I enjoy and building a relationship through non-verbal interaction.
You would be assisting me with personal care and preparing meals for me, as well as encouraging my communication and self-help skills.
Helping me to manage changes in mood and behaviour would also be part of your role.

The person I would like
I would like someone who is interested in exploring channels of communication with me to develop a companionship. You would need to be patient, calm and consistent, and have a sense of fun.
Practically, you will need to be a car-driver and be able to prepare simple meals. Experience in managing challenging behaviour would be preferable.
