The vision of Derby College Group (DCG) is to create world-class, accessible education opportunities that enrich lives and make bright futures a reality for all. DCG is committed to providing educational excellence, championing social mobility, and driving economic prosperity. We deliver high-quality academic, vocational, and technical education that empowers people to achieve their ambitions while providing employers across the Midlands and beyond with the talented workforce of tomorrow.
We are looking for a highly motivated Trainer/Assessor in Animal Care with a wide knowledge of the Animal Care industry with specialist knowledge of exotic animals. The Derby College Animal Care unit is a very busy, forward-thinking centre and the team are ambitious and proud of their achievements and work environment.
You will perform the role of trainer/assessor as part of the wider Animal Care Team, taking responsibility for the overall care of all the animals and maintenance of their health and accommodation. As part of your role, you will deliver practical sessions to students from Entry 3 to Level 3, teaching and assessing them on the practical aspect of their curriculum. In addition to that, you will be involved in open days, interviews, and other responsibilities in line with the curriculum needs. Up to date knowledge and experience of Animal Care is essential.

You should be organised and have excellent interpersonal skills together with a commitment to working effectively as part of a team. Your primary focus will be the responsibility for students working on the unit and ensuring health and safety procedures are always followed and ensuring the animals’ welfare needs are met.
