This job roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working remotely. However, there may be some travel required (e.g. routine travel to meetings) as part of the role.

**Job description**:
This post sits within the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Digital Strategy team. This exciting role offers the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge of all aspects of digital sustainability and to influence the MOD’s future strategic direction in this area.

Climate change and sustainability (CC&S) represent a major collaborative challenge that the Government is determined to address. Defence has ambitious and far-reaching plans to support the Government’s CC&S policies and targets and it is committed to delivering a Net Zero carbon economy by 2050. Digital technology is increasingly held up as a key component of any solution to the global climate crisis, and the work conducted by this role will contribute towards Defence’s overarching CC&S ambitions to reduce this impact.

Responsibilities include:

- Facilitating the development and implementation of the Digital Sustainability Delivery Plan, pan-Defence. This includes responding to changes in the cross-government, industrial and international environments and effectively identifying and managing dependencies, risks, critical enablers, or barriers.
- Investigating and challenging existing processes, seeking to add value by identifying best practice and encouraging experimentation.
- Proactively communicating and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to increase the level of awareness and support on the digital sustainability agenda pan-Defence.
- Understanding the variation in knowledge, perspectives and attitudes towards the digital sustainability agenda and bringing together relevant stakeholder groups to enable the successful implementation of improvements.
- Drawing on international, UK and Defence policy to provide strategic advice and guidance on digital sustainability. Working to ensure that Defence’s digital sustainability policy remains aligned with broader cross-government policy commitments and legislative requirements.
- Providing sustainable acquisition support and expertise to a variety of digital, data and technology capabilities.
- Representing the MOD, Digital Function or Defence Digital (department) within internal or external events, activities, or collaboration groups as required.

**Person specification**:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a friendly disposition and has good communication skills.

You will need to be confident and able to work under pressure whilst always remaining polite and courteous. You will also need to have the ability to use a degree of initiative, and the ability to retain information to prioritise daily duties.

The below qualifications, would be beneficial but aren't an essential requirement:

- Graduate, Associate, Practitioner or Full Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
- Associate Membership of the British Computer Society.
