Recroot are looking for an Education Support Practitioner to join our client based with Islington Council.

This role is starting immediately, working Mon to Fri between 8:30am to 4:30pm in an ongoing contract.

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Bright Start 5 - 19 offers help for families with children over five years old, within three locality areas to enable children and families to reach their potential and to support local communities in order to build resilience and improve long term outcomes for all families in Islington. This role involves integrated working with New River College pupil referral units in Islington (primary, secondary and medical) to develop effective working relationships with NRC staff and partner agencies to coordinate and support transition of children to/from mainstream schools. Offer in-school support and work alongside practitioners already involved in a child’s life to improve educational outcomes. Education Support Workers offer local support to children and families, offering effective individual and group interventions that improve outcomes for children and young people, particularly in relation to attainment, attendance and reducing school exclusions. New River College (NRC) Education Support Workers will engage with young people that are based within New River College Pupil Referral Unit and/or Islington’s Alternative Provision providers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Work alongside NRC and other practitioners involved in a child’s life to improve educational outcomes
- improving attendance, attainment and reducing school exclusions. 2. Engage with and build relationships with NRC, schools and AP providers in the locality to promote identification of children in need of help. 3.Promote staff development and share good practice around child and young people centred work and managing complex needs in the community. 4. Deliver group work to NRC parents and/or children with a focus on improving educational outcomes. 5. Participate in a flexible approach to meet the needs of NRC children with poor attendance, able to provide planned pieces of work, one off quick response, advice and guidance to NRC, schools and practitioners across the partnership to improve attendance. 6. Keep informed of current policy and research developments (e.g. in the fields of adolescent development, mental health, family relationships, peer on peer violence, child sexual exploitation, working with gangs, foster care and multi-agency working),attend and contribute to training, and ongoing staff development
