5D is certified by BSi to ISO 13485:2016, ISO 9001:2015 and UKAS accredited to ISO 17025. As a Centre of Excellence in Biofilm Science (CEBS), 5D offers innovation, research & development and world-class scientific testing services in the areas of antimicrobials, antibiofilms, biofilms, microbiology, virology, biomaterials, cells and biologics, medical devices, tissue regeneration and infection control.
**Primary function of the role**
1. To provide microbiological and biofilm support to the scientific testing (5D Biolab) and R&D teams (5D R&D).
2. To write microbiological methods, protocols and reports to support testing and R&D.
3. To manage, plan and track all microbiology R&D projects.
4. Working closely with universities and many UK and global organisations in different industrial sectors.
5. Ensuring work is completed in compliance to ISO 17025, ISO 13485 and Health & Safety standards.
6. To train lab technicians, in-house scientists and external visiting scientists.
7. To develop new methods and models for evaluating antiviral, antimicrobial and antibiofilm agents.
8. To write scientific publications for journals and marketing material and assist in writing further grants in collaboration with a number of universities.
**Education and Experience**
1. A degree, and a MSc or PhD in microbiology, biofilms, biology or life sciences.
2. Knowledge of bacteriology, mycology, viruses, cell culture, antimicrobials, biocides and medical device technologies. Additional skills in other areas such as dentistry, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, consumer wellness, veterinary medicine and water would be advantageous.
3. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
4. Knowledge of EU and FDA regulatory requirements for Class I, II and III medical devices would be desirable.
5. Knowledge of quality management system requirements in line with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and ISO 13485.
6. Experience of working in CRO environment
7. Experience in the use of statistical techniques for the planning and analysis of experiments.
8. Experience in writing technical specifications, method validations and test methods.
