The successful applicant will be working within the Environment and Sustainability Team in the Technical Authority, The E&S team provide strategic direction and guidance across Network Rail and the wider industry across environmental and social sustainability topics such as Environmental Management, Circular Economy, Low Emissions, Biodiversity, Weather Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation and Social Value. Reporting into the National Environment Manager the successful applicant will play a key role in supporting environmental management across Network Rail. To begin with this role will have a strong focus on getting our environmental performance data in order as a really important step in managing and understanding our performance and enabling us to take a risk-based approach to our management.

**Brief Description**:
We are looking for a **National Environment Specialist **to fill a **Permanent** opportunity based in **Milton Keynes** to provide environmental advice and guidance to support the Regions and Functions to manage the environment and maintain environmental compliance. Report, monitor and analyse the environmental performance of the business to support continual improvement in environmental management.

**What will your day look like?**

The role of **National Environment Specialist **is a multifaceted role in that you will undertake various duties including (but not limited to):

- Provide the Regions and Functions with advice and guidance on environmental issues to support the business with environmental compliance.
- Report, monitor and analyse the environmental performance of the business, including relevant periodic, quarterly, and annual reporting, to support the business in decision making and continual improvement as part of the Environmental Management System.
- Provide support to the National Environment Manager on the creation, development and implementation of environmental plans, standards, and procedures to enable Network Rail to meet or exceed regulatory, statutory, and other compliance obligations.
- Provide support to the National Environment Manager on the measurement and assurance of Network Rails performance against environmental legislation, standards, objectives, and other compliance obligations to support Network Rail to maintain legislative and other compliance.
- Provide support to the National Environment Manager the development and maintenance of Network Rail’s Environment Management System (EMS) and facilitate continued improvement in the businesses’ environmental performance.
- Provide support to the National Environmental Manager in identification and management of national environmental risks and in putting in place controls to mitigate the identified risks, escalating where appropriate.
- Work with stakeholders both internally and externally to share best practice and learning on environmental management.
- Develop internal and external environment and sustainability communications for Network Rail such as cascades, briefings, lessons learnt, case studies, newsletters etc.

2. Member of IEMA or equivalent professional institute e.g. CIEEM (or equivalent through experience).
