Finance Assistant/book-keeper

**Salary**:£25,000 - £32,000 (FTE) depending on experience
Pro rata salary for 21 hours

**Hours**: At least 21 hours (3 days) per week

**Location**: Suite 3 Beechwood, Grove Business Park, White Waltham, Maidenhead, Berks SL6 3LW

**Reporting to: Finance Director**

NRAS is the only patient-led charity in the UK working exclusively for people affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) supporting all those who live with these diseases, their families and the health professionals who care for them. It is a national charity employing 30 people with offices based near Maidenhead.

This is a great opportunity for the right person interested in being part of a small team with the opportunity to develop and assume wider responsibility over time for improving processes, developing enhanced business reporting and participating in strategic planning. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Finance Assistant will have the primary responsibility for the timely and accurate processing of financial information for the main Charity.

**Main Responsibilities**
- **Bookkeeping**:_
- To assume responsibility for the coding and input of all purchase invoices on to Sage.
- To ensure that all invoices have been appropriately authorised.
- Manage the purchase order system.
- To raise all sales invoices on Sage and to actively manage debt collection with the help and support of appropriate colleagues within the charity.
- To process bank payments
- To reconcile the Bank on a weekly basis and to liaise with Fundraising Department to ensure that all receipts are correctly coded.
- To manage collation of data and submission of Gift Aid Claims
- To assist Fundraising with other administration matters.
- **Management and financial accounting**:_
- To assist the Finance Director in the month-end close process for the Charity and preparation of management accounts
- To prepare VAT returns (partial exemption rules apply)
- Data analysis and modelling
- Manage cash flow forecasts
- Manage investments of surplus cash in short term deposits
- To assist in the preparation of the Charity Commission Return and such other returns as may be required.

**Qualifications and skills**

AAT or part qualified accountant
Appropriate level of prior book-keeping experience
Use of Sage
- A basic understanding of double entry book-keeping and how P & L and Balance Sheet are created
- Common sense
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good working knowledge of Sage accounting systems.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office programmes particularly Excel.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Team player.
- An ability to work with staff to develop and implement new processes and systems

that increase efficiency.
