Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office. We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Preventing small boat crossings of the Channel remains a top priority for the Home Office. All levers and capabilities across HMG are being drawn upon to reduce the number of people successfully crossing from France and to manage humanely and efficiently those that are intercepted and brought to the UK.

A key part of the department’s response is driven by the Small Boats Operational Command (SBOC), an operational directorate within Border Force. SBOC delivers this through implementing world-leading surveillance technology on air, land, and sea, developing operational initiatives with France and other near-neighbour partners, and by providing capabilities and resources to support the interception and initial processing of people arriving by small boat in the UK.

**Job description**:
The Manston Health & Safety Team are a dynamic and responsive team responsible for all Manston Operations Health & Safety and Fire Safety across site and close working with our on-site Contractors.
Primarily operating in Manston Reception Centre, you will be required to engage through face-to-face interaction with all staff on site and visitors to site including Fire Risk Assessors and Kent Fire Brigade.
- You will need to:
- Work collaboratively and maintain an excellent working relationship with all Home Office teams and external stakeholders, to ensure a One Manston' approach to the operation of Manston and care of those in detention, including working within the Manston Site Management Room.
- Be resilient as you will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts and late finishes.
- Be expected to work towards a health and safety and fire qualification, if not already held.

**Do you meet the key eligibility criteria?**

In order to be eligible, you **MUST** meet ALL the following criteria.
- I am a UK National.
- I can undertake shift work.
- I will be able to provide all the ID documents required to complete my pre-employment screening and security clearance.

Due to the nature of the role, this post is being offered on a full time basis only.

**Person specification**:
You will be required to:

- Meet with Fire Risk Assessors and follow up any actions recommended.
- Record and accurately maintain records of Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Evacuation plans, Fire Drills, Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments.
- Identify issues surrounding Health and Safety and liaise with other teams to resolve.
- Work closely with onsite contractors to ensure robust health and safety checks, Fire Evacuation plans and any other Health & Safety issues are shared and addressed.
- Undertake administration including ensuring all Health and Safety and Fire Management documents are kept updated.
- Take minutes for the monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings and any other ad-hoc meetings as required.
- Maintain the Health and Safety outlook inbox.

**Essential Criteria**
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and managing demanding but competing priorities.
- Strong IT skills - Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Ability to deal with situations in a calm and professional manner.
- A willingness to work towards Health & Safety and Fire Safety Qualifications.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Health and Safety knowledge or an interest in Health & Safety.
- Fire safety awareness.
- Hold a full valid manual driving licence.
