To provide clinical photography support to Swansea Bay University Health Board, including ophthalmic, dermatology and general clinical photography and clinical video.

The post holder will participate in all aspects of clinical, specialist clinical, scientific and non-clinical photography, including video, copy work, reprographic and multi-media imaging.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the training, supervision and appraisal of junior clinical photography staff.

The post holder will be responsible for the monitoring of clinical photographic workflows and reporting issues associated with the latter.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

To undertake in all aspects of medical/clinical, research, medical legal, safeguarding, trauma photography of adults and children in a variety of site locations.

To undertake some non-clinical photography when required.

To undertake clinical photography in studio locations, wards, outpatient clinics, operating theatre’s and any other clinical location as requested and guided by standard departmental operating procedures.

To produce high quality digital images using advanced technical skills in computerised image manipulation, ensuring that reproduction is accurate and in accordance with departmental procedures. Being mindful of the need for a defined audit trail and the implications for misdiagnosis and potential areas for litigation.

Responsible for ensuring patients receive relevant information to be able to give ‘informed’ consent and that minors are Gillick competent, where appropriate.

Advise clients on the most effective use of the photographic service and facilities.

Be responsible for ensuring the quality of all photography. Following up on the clinical photographers and work produced within the department to ensure consistency and that a ‘gold standard’ is maintained. That the condition/disease has been accurately interpreted and the correct lighting technique has been used to ensure it is medically and legally valuable, measured against recognised national and local standards.

Propose the replacement and development of branded equipment to take account of new technologies with cross functional capabilities.

Maintain records of maintenance, repair and distribution of equipment. Evaluate all photographic equipment in use for replacement or repair and report to senior management.

Ensure all photographic work is carried out in a manner that complies with department processes and workflow that includes knowledge in legislation surrounding Information Governance, Confidentiality and Data Protection.

Maintain inventories of all photographic and audio-visual equipment in use across all Clinical Photography sites and report back any problems to senior management.

To be conversant with modern trends in clinical, scientific and technical photography and illustrative procedures and to keep abreast of technological development within the photographic fields.

To assist in the implementation of innovative technologies and techniques as appropriate and in line with financial constraints.

To be computer literate with regard to digital imaging processes including the production and edit of medical videos and the production and edit of clinical photographs.

Report back to senior management on clinical photography statistics, maintenance of records and maintenance of the departmental servers and I.T systems.

To participate, with senior staff, in departmental quality initiatives and to assist in the ongoing development of the Clinical Photography and Medical Illustration Services and Quality Management systems.

To liaise with consultant staff, senior managers and healthcare professionals in the conception and production of illustrative material.

To utilise administrative and relevant image database systems within the department to meet all audit recommendations. Controlling access to the information in line with the Data Protection Act.
