**What you will be doing**:
Thames Water is in the process of enhancing its in-house DSEAR (Dangerous Substances & Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) capability. The company has over 300 sewage treatment works and 3000 waste pumping stations with explosion-protected equipment installedand maintained. This is an opportunity to join a major industry leader in environmental management and contribute to keeping our workers and local communities safe.
The **Hazardous Area Electrical Engineer** is key in addressing the risk of an explosion across the Thames Water catchment area. It primarily involves undertaking site surveys to collect asset data, identify gaps, and influence the necessary correctiveactions to achieve full compliance with regulations.
You will be contributing to the success of DSEAR Compliance improvements across the business as well as the overall promotion of explosion prevention strategies with numerous stakeholders.
**Some of the key accountabilities include**:

- Assisting in the development of the ATEX asset management system by collecting asset data from all sites to build ATEX registers and Termination registers
- Co-ordinating the production of Intrinsically Safe Loop Drawing and Descriptive System documents
- Assessing solutions for Non-compliance corrective actions and validating technical information and specifications
- Providing feedback to the workstream continuous improvement process
- Supporting Capital Delivery projects - Act as a gatekeeper for new project DSEAR documentation
- Maintaining the document management system and ensuring the latest versions of the documents are available to stakeholders

**We’re looking for you to**:

- **Have an excellent understanding** of the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR), associated standards and approved Codes of Practice, and knowledge of electrical equipment for use in potentially flammable atmospheres
- **Have proven experience in**Hazardous Area Inspections or Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Services
- Being qualified in **CompEx 01-04, 05-06, and CompEx 12** is a plus
- **Have excellent communication** and developed relationship skills so that highly technical information can be communicated in a clear and concise manner
- **Have a robust comprehension**of technical and process safety-related investigations and documentation such as Engineering Risk Assessment/Safety Reviews, Functional Design Specifications, Process, and Instrumentation Diagrams, and Electrical/Loopdrawings
- **Be proficient in Microsoft 365 tools** in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
- **Travel within Thames Water’s region**for site surveys and audits is necessary for this role and afull driving license is needed
