We are looking to appoint various full-time ST1/ST2 (equivalent) Junior Clinical Fellows in Neurosurgery to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. These are service posts that are either to start immediately or February 2024 and have a fixed term end date that varies between August 2024 and October 2024. This may be extendable by mutual agreement.

These Junior Clinical Fellow posts are designed to support the Neurosurgical team, based predominantly at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. The successful post holders will work alongside Trainee doctors at the same level attending clinics, theatres & ward rounds. A full shift out of hours working pattern is in operation in line with service requirements.

These posts are suited for individuals who wish to further a career in Neurosurgery in the United Kingdom. The post does not attract a National Training Number. However reasonable support and supervision will be available for appointees to pursue respective training needs identified. The duties of these posts are equivalent to an ST1-2 trainee in Neurosurgery.

The appointee will be responsible in their duties to all the Consultant Neurosurgeons and in some specific aspects of duties to any person that may be nominated by them.

This Sheffield Neurosurgical Department is a regional unit serving a population of approximately 2.2 million covering South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, and North Lincolnshire. The Adult Neurosurgical Service is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with a 52 bed unit, including a 7 bed Neuro-Critical care and a 13 bed HDU. The Paediatric Neurosurgical Service is separately located at Sheffield Children’s Hospital immediately adjacent to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The Sheffield Neurosurgical Unit also includes the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery which comprises two gamma knives, including a Lexsell Perfexion.
