**Substance Misuse Officer - Children Services - Croydon Council**

**Salary**: Grade 9 (£39,264 - £40,833)

Permanent - 36 hours per week

Hybrid working

**Job Purpose**

The post holder, working in partnership with other relevant services, will provide a client centred, evidence-based, non-judgemental and recovery orientated service aimed at supporting, advising and helping young people and adults, affected by a range of problem substance use issues to reduce, control and cease that use. The core function of this role is the delivery of positive safety and well-being outcomes for children and families who are affected by substance misuse. Please note, evening and weekend work may be required, travelling external of the London Borough of Croydon may occur.

**About You**

We are looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified professional that can demonstrate their knowledge and experience of providing support, information, and advice to individuals in relation to substance misuse as appropriate.

You will have comprehensive understanding of substance misuse screenings and assessments.

**Essential Requirements**
Relevant qualification in substance misuse, youth work, psychology, counselling, mental health or social care.
Substantial experience of working with children, young people and adults who use drug and/or alcohol and those at risk of substance misuse.
Recent experience of managing a caseload, with the ability to undertake high quality assessments and devise bespoke intervention plans to address identified need.
Demonstrable experience of devising and delivering effective group work to a variance of audiences.
Experience of identifying and raising safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels; with the ability to manage conflict and challenging behaviours.
Understanding of harm reduction principles and practice in the substance use field, and experience of delivering harm reduction interventions.
Sound experience working in the addiction field or a transferrable setting.
The ability to maintain accurate and up to date records using the electronic case management system.
Excellent communication and engagement skills combined with the ability to work well under pressure.
The ability to build effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
