Autism Initiatives is an autism specialist charity providing services to people with autism and their families across the UK and Ireland. The charity contracts with local commissioners to provide a range of services including supported housing, residential care, day care provision, respite services, community support and home support.

The Senior Payroll Officer will report directly to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and ensuring that the end to end monthly payroll process is completed for all employees in Northern Ireland and Ireland. Currently Autism Initiatives Northern Ireland and Autism Initiatives Ireland have circa 500 staff (approx. 250 in each jurisdiction).

The post holder will manage a team of payroll staff to provide a professional, quality, effective and timely payroll service to all employees of Autism Initiatives NI / Ireland, the relevant tax /regulatory authorities and other external agencies whilst ensuring the integrity of all data entered into the relevant payroll software packages for payment.

The Senior Payroll Officer duties must be carried out in accordance with prescribed procedures and include the following:

- To oversee the end to end monthly payroll function in 2 jurisdictions (Northern Ireland and Ireland), from opening of the payroll month to reporting to HMRC / Revenue Commissioners.
- To oversee the year-end payroll associated processes and administration of organisation compensation and benefit schemes including Pensions.
- To review and evaluate the current ways of working within the team to create efficiencies and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- To ensure that audits and checks are carried out on monthly data entered into the payroll system to ensure accuracy and completeness and to build upon existing checks and balances to ensure the most robust procedures are in place in relation to payments made.
- To be a point of contact for payroll colleagues to escalate the most complex queries.
- To ensure that all third party payments are recorded and paid on a monthly basis including pensions, attachments, revenue, etc.
- To work in conjunction with the Finance Manager to ensure that all monthly payroll reports are compiled and reconciled in a timely manner to ensure that operational accounts can be posted on time.
- To ensure payroll systems are kept up to date both in terms of operating software and data integrity and to escalate any issues that need resolved in relation to software to third party providers for resolution.
- To provide payroll related information and analysis to HR, Operational & Finance colleagues for the purposes of salary reviews, Employer Liability Claims, Insurance, etc.
- To perform monthly reconciliations including reconciling the payroll reports to the nominal ledgers.
- To provide training to operational staff on payroll processes and procedures as required.
- To assist the organisation with ensuring compliance with the latest legislations and regulations relating to payroll i.e. gender pay reporting, holiday pay, auto enrolment etc.

The above mentioned duties are not exhaustive and the post holder will be required to carry out other duties as and when necessary. It should be noted that stated duties or location associated with the post may change to meet the future needs of the organisation.

Essential Criteria:

- Recognised payroll qualification **And** Knowledge of Irish Payroll

OR
- In the absence of formal qualifications, 3 years’ experience with end to end payroll processing **And **Knowledge of Irish Payroll
- Extensive working knowledge of statutory regulations and returns
- Relevant experience in end to end payroll activity including the running of month end reports for reconciliation
- Working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Excel and Word
- Experience of working with large payroll (500+ employees)
- 1+ years’ experience in managing and guiding a payroll team
- Excellent accuracy skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and flexible
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
