You will be working as the Head Cook for a small team within the Kitchen of the Care Home. You will be responsible for providing meals and snacks for up to 77 residents in a mixed Residential and Dementia setting.

Cover for holidays and sickness will be expected as well as working all Public and Seasonal Holiday Periods.

**Responsibilities**

1. To prepare and present wholesome, nutritious, home cooked food and beverages to a high standard, and promptly, in accordance with agreed meal times.

2. To prepare menus in consultation with residents and as agreed with the Registered Manager, observing residents' special dietary needs where appropriate.

3. To prepare special diet meals as needed, and as directed through appropriate Diet Sheets / Care Plans. To liaise with the Manager to keep abreast of any changes in residents' dietary requirements.

4. To order fresh food and supplies according to the Purchasing procedure.

5. To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen and food storage areas at all times, in accordance with the appropriate Food Safety Regulations and the Home’s cleaning schedule.

6. To ensure management and implementation of safe working procedures and practices in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and to supervise/train catering staff accordingly.

7. To regularly monitor performance of suppliers and to check that suppliers' prices remain competitive, ensuring that the Manager is kept informed accordingly.

8. To regularly monitor stock and to inform the Manager of any discrepancies. To ensure correct stock rotation of foodstuffs to minimise wastage, and to dispose promptly of any foodstuff found to be past "sell-by" dates for any reason.

9. To account for all monies issued and receipts obtained.

10. To liaise with the manager regarding Residents weekly/monthly weights and to act accordingly for any gains/losses.

11. To ensure timely and efficient cleaning of all dishes and cooking utensils.

12. To conduct regular staff supervision and appraisal as per Company Procedure.

13. To ensure safe operation and maintenance, as needed, of all kitchen equipment. To remove from use and to report to the Manager any item of equipment found to be faulty or deemed unsafe.

14. To ensure accurate and timely documentation of all required records including monitoring and recording of refrigerator and freezer temperatures in accordance with Food Safety Standards requirements, and to ensure their verification with a calibrated thermometer, according to procedures.

15. To assist the Manager in the resolution of any complaints concerning the catering service and to contribute to a happy atmosphere in the home

**Skills**

1. NVQ levels 2 & 3 in Catering & Hospitality.

2. Up to date Food Safety Certificate

3. Experience of preparing meals in a main kitchen

4. Health & Safety knowledge

5. Experience of nutritional requirements including special diets

6. Experience and knowledge of temperature control and food safety

7. Experience of preparing nutritious, appetising meals

8. Experience of attractive presentation of food

9. Effective stock ordering, handling and control

10. Working with service users to plan, produce and deliver menus.

11. Motivated and flexible in meeting preferences of consumers

12. Able to perform well under pressure.

13. Well organised with good delegation and supervisory skills

14. Able to work on own initiative in a way that helps to meet resident’s needs.

15. Ability to plan and implement staff rotas.

Pay: £27,000.00-£29,000.00 per year
