**Job description**

We are looking for an assistant Chef at Willow View Care Ltd in Stockton-On-Tees.

You will be working alongside the Head Chef for a small team within the Kitchen of the Care Home. You will be responsible for providing meals and snacks for up to 77 residents in a mixed Residential and Dementia setting.

Cover for holidays and sickness will be expected as well as working all Public and Seasonal Holiday Periods.

**Responsibilities**

1. To prepare vegetables and other foodstuffs and beverages as directed by the Head Cook

2. To prepare menus in consultation with residents and as agreed with the Registered Manager, observing residents' special dietary needs where appropriate.

3. To prepare special diet meals as needed, and as directed through appropriate Diet Sheets / Care Plans. To liaise with the Manager to keep abreast of any changes in residents' dietary requirements.

4. To order fresh food and supplies according to the Purchasing procedure.

5. Assist in washing dishes and utensils and operate kitchen equipment as necessary

6. To ensure that the kitchen and food storage areas are clean and tidy as per daily cleaning routine and the Home’s cleaning schedule.

7. To participate in staff training and staff meetings as required.

8. To undertake other duties, as necessary.

9. Contribute to Menu development

10. Stock Ordering

11. Team Management, including Appraisals and Supervision

12. Working with Home Manager to ensure all local authority and care inspection criteria is met and exceeded

**ESSENTIAL**

1. NVQ levels 2 & 3 in Catering & Hospitality.

2. Up to date Food Safety Certificate

3. Experience of preparing meals in a main kitchen

4. Health & Safety knowledge

5. Experience of nutritional requirements including special diets

6. Experience and knowledge of temperature control and food safety

7. Experience of preparing nutritious, appetising meals

8. Experience of attractive presentation of food

9. Effective stock ordering, handling and control

10. Working with service users to plan, produce and deliver menus.

11. Motivated and flexible in meeting preferences of consumers

12. Able to perform well under pressure.

13. Well organised with good delegation and supervisory skills

14. Able to work on own initiative in a way that helps to meet resident’s needs.

15. Ability to plan and implement staff rotas.

**DESIRABLE**

1. Experience in a commercial or care home setting

2. Supervision of kitchen staff or ability to develop this

3. Working with service users and other staff to contribute positively to quality of care

Pay: £12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
