Your new role

Principal Analyst - Electric Vehicle Demand, to work in our Chief Analyst’s Division.

You will be responsible for leading the analysis which will accompany funding proposals and support decision-making. You will lead for National Highways on delivering the Analytical Framework (currently under development), using bespoke analysis and modellingto forecast demand for charging infrastructure at the roadside.

You will also work closely with stakeholders, especially bidders, and be responsible for assessing funding bids, challenging assumptions, and ensuring that the correct evidence is available to support decisions, as well as being part of the Transport PlanningGroup (TPG), benefiting from the skills and experience of colleagues across the Chief Analyst’s Division along with training and development opportunities, and may manage a team of analysts working on the RCF.

What you’ll be leading on
- Provide leadership within TPG and may be responsible for recruiting and/or supervising the work of a team of senior analysts and analysts, mentoring, and ensuring the continual development of the team’s skills and technical expertise in line with businesspriorities and objectives. Work with other leaders within TPG and the Chief Analyst’s Division to manage cross-team and cross-group workloads.
- Recommend and draft improvements to the RCF Analytical Framework. Ensure that the National Highways Analytical Assurance Framework is applied to analysis for which they are responsible.
- Implement the RCF Analytical Framework, undertaking analysis, advising stakeholders and applicants to the fund, and critically assessing the analysis of applicants. The analysis is likely to include processing and reviewing observed data; implementing bespokedemand modelling and analytical approaches; and implementing economic appraisal techniques. Act as a focal point and mentor for this area and for further developing the framework (including innovative and bespoke approaches).
- Supervise the design, development, delivery and maintenance of relevant and proportionate analytical platforms ensuring they meet the requirements identified, keeping them up-to-date for use, and may act as the Senior Model Owner. Ensure the quality ofanalysis whilst undertaking and leading on multiple tasks. Supervise or undertake ad hoc analysis for the RCF project team or the wider Chief Analyst’s Division as required.
- Lead and manage relationships within internal stakeholders such as project sponsors and project managers, to develop, advise on and supervise analysis. Engage with external stakeholders including DfT, the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), the supplychain, and fund applicants and/or their consultants.
- Act as a research lead, overseeing the specification and delivery of research and development relevant to the Rapid Charging Fund.
- Act as a focal point for analytical knowledge and experience, responsible for the development and delivery of training activities across the company and with stakeholders.

To be successful
- Be able to develop bespoke analytical solutions to complex problems and be able to provide leadership in the context of analysis. This includes setting clear requirements of others, ensuring quality deliverables, enabling confidence in analytical outputs,spotting gaps in information and making linkages and connections between initiatives, programmes and work effort.
- Understand the extent to which transport analysis can influence problem identification and likely solutions on the SRN, especially in the context of electric vehicle charging demand, and be able to provide advice on the strengths and weaknesses of suchoutputs.
- Understand the key constraints faced by the National Highways, such as the air quality and noise limits set out in the various environmental regulations.
- Be able to convey complex ideas effectively to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Be able to plan their own workload and the workload of their team; effectively line manage others, dealing with poor performance whilst also developing and supporting team members.
- Ability to educate others in the intricacies of analysis and impart knowledge of in-depth areas as appropriate.
- Manage contractors / suppliers and take the appropriate steps to ensure good quality results are delivered by the supply chain.
