Researcher in Health Modelling

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with strong analytical skills to work within Dr Marco Springmann’s team on modelling the diet-related health implications of food and agricultural policies.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new multi-disciplinary research team on food systems analysis jointly based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford, with offices in both London and Oxford. The new research group is supported by long-term funding from Wellcome Trust and by project-specific funding from the EU Horizon programme.

In the post, you will undertake analyses of the health impacts of food and agricultural policies at regional, national, and sub-national levels, including for European countries and cities. For this work, you will maintain and further develop an existing health model that links changes in dietary and weight-related risks to changes in mortality, and you will link the model to agriculture and economic models to contribute to policy assessments, e.g., of the EU Green Deal.

You hold or are close to completion of a doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, epidemiology, nutrition, data science, applied economics, or others). Holders of relevant postgraduate degrees can also be considered. It is important that you have experience that is relevant for health modelling including technical knowledge (e.g., in conducting comparative risk assessments of changes in risk factors), as well as proficiency in data analysis and coding (e.g., in R, Python, or GAMS). Your writing and communication skills allow you to interact effectively with different academic communities.

This is a full-time post offered for 3 years (with potential for extension).
