**About us**
A Senior Governor Support Officer is required to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Governor Support Unit (GSU) within the Strategy and Resources Section of the Learning & Skills Directorate.

The GSU provides, advice, support and training for governors to enable them to fulfil their role in school improvement by challenging and supporting schools to perform well.

Whilst governors are volunteers, they have a wide range of legal responsibilities ranging from appointing Headteachers and deputy headteachers to dealing with redundancies, staff disciplinary matters and complaints as well as holding the school to account in terms of performance standards so they need the tools to fulfil the role effectively.

**About the role**
Pay Details: Grade 8, SCP 26-30, £32,909 - £36,298

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: Full time - 37 hours

Main Place of Work: Work from home/Civic Offices

Temporary Reason: Covering secondment of postholder

**Description**:
This is an interesting and challenging role and the duties are wide and varied including supporting the development and delivery of governor training, managing governor recruitment processes, developing the governor database and website, managing school complaints, managing Senior Appointments (Headship and deputy headship vacancies) as well other tasks.

**About you**
You will need:
You should have significant experience in an education, business management or a related discipline with a proven track record. You will need to be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels and to convey clear information to a range of audiences. You need to be able to analyse and evaluate complex information and situations and make effective decisions. You should also be able to form and sustain excellent professional working relationships and to be able to deal effectively with sensitive/confidential issues and to manage conflict situations. Experience of working with Headteachers, organising and delivering training and knowledge of Education Law are desirable but not essential as full training will be given.
