Job Description: Transport Compliance and Route Planning Operative

**Responsibilities**:
Transport Compliance Management:
Oversee and ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations and legislation in the UK.

Monitor and maintain records of all vehicles, drivers, and journeys to meet regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with relevant authorities, such as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), to stay updated on transport compliance changes and adapt company procedures accordingly.

Route Planning and Optimization:
Plan and optimize transport routes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and equipment to various locations.

Consider factors such as traffic conditions, fuel efficiency, and delivery schedules to enhance transportation efficiency.

Fleet Management:
Coordinate the maintenance and servicing schedules for the company's fleet of vehicles.

Collaborate with the procurement team to manage the acquisition of new vehicles and disposal of old ones, ensuring they meet necessary standards.

Driver Management:
Oversee a team of drivers, providing support and guidance to ensure safe and efficient driving practices.

Monitor driver performance, conduct regular assessments, and arrange relevant training when required.

Compliance with UK Working Time Laws:
Ensure all drivers adhere to UK working time laws, including driving hours and rest periods.

Implement systems to monitor and track drivers' working hours to prevent violations.

Health and Safety:
Work in close coordination with the health and safety department to promote a safe working environment for drivers and transportation staff.

Conduct regular risk assessments of transportation activities and implement necessary safety measures.

Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of transportation activities, including driver logs, vehicle inspections, and incident reports.

Prepare regular reports for management, providing insights into transport performance and compliance.

Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvement within the transportation department to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvements and best practices.

Liaising with Highway Authority and Key Stakeholders:
Advanced planning and coordination of transportation activities.

Liaising with clients and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

Supporting the Administrator:
Ensure the Administrator is supported and on track with daily/weekly tasks.

Assist in submitting in-day permit starts, stops, and registrations.

Meeting KPIs:
Ensure regional KPIs are met, and transportation goals are achieved.

Requirements from Us:

- Proven experience in a similar role within the logistics or utilities industry.
- In-depth knowledge of UK transport regulations, including driver hours, tachograph rules, and vehicle safety standards.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to handle multiple transportation tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to manage a team of drivers.
- Proficiency in using transportation management systems and route optimization software.
- A commitment to health and safety standards and a track record of promoting a safety-first culture.
- Problem-solving skills to address transportation challenges and incidents promptly.
- Some planning experience preferred but not essential.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Logical thinker with the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong decision-making capabilities.
- Organized with the ability to multitask effectively.
