Head of Therapy, Band 8c

**JOB PURPOSE**: - To be responsible for the operational management and strategic planning of the trust-wide Therapy Service, in terms of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. - To work with the Consultant Physiotherapist, Lead Therapists, AHP Director and Trust Chief AHP to develop and implement the strategic plan for the whole integrated service. - To lead the Therapy Leadership team to work collaboratively to deliver an integrated Therapy service, ensuring sustainable outcomes and meeting Divisional/Trust objectives - To ensure interprofessional leadership for the service and staff in order to deliver a quality service to patients. - To be the lead for clinical governance ensuring a safe and effective service for patients and staff.
- To lead service development and innovation responding to National agenda, Trust, CCG and professional drivers. - Work with Chief AHP and AHP leads to actively raise the profile of AHPs across the Trust, driving forward service improvements and increasing the profile of their work. - To provide expertise and advice to all Social & Health partners in relation to patient flow and discharge issues through the translation and interpretation of national and other directions. DIMENSIONS: The post holder will be responsible for the management of over 200 staff, comprising registered physiotherapists, occupational therapists and related support staff.
To lead the Service and to work collaboratively to deliver a fully integrated countywide service, ensuring sustainable outcomes and meeting Divisional/Trust/ICS objectives To ensure inter-professional leadership for the service and staff in order to deliver a quality service to patients. The post holder will be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service, Trust policies and procedures; and to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team. KEY RESULT AREAS: Management & leadership - To lead by example and display a leadership style that demonstrates trust values, empowers staff and develops and nurtures development at all levels. - To undertake the strategic planning, service planning and overall management of the trust wide Therapy Service, ensuring that levels of service are met within agreed resources and standards.
- To establish links and communication across divisions and service lines. - To implement strategies and policies to respond to changes within health and social care, including implementation of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines, Trust and CCG objectives. - To ensure service development and embed innovation to improve patient pathways, challenging traditional practices and embedding innovative problem solving - To have overall management responsibility for all staff within the Therapy Service. - To liaise with external organisations and enable the development and maintenance of robust working relationships across the local health and social care community.
- To work with partners in the delivery of a countywide MSK service, reporting against performance indicators. - Work closely with ICB leads, such as the ICB Chief AHP, and Provider AHP leads and the Advanced Clinical Practitioner lead, ensuring staff and workforce development is aligned with the agreed strategic direction. - Be an active member of the ICS AHP Council and AHP Faculty. - Work closely with Higher Education institutions (HEIs) to enable workforce development to aligned to the needs of the service, ensuring placement capacity id appropriate.
- To be responsible for workforce planning, identifying the future needs of the service in line with modernisation and changing healthcare needs. - To be responsible for recruitment, retention and regular review of staffing levels and skill mix within the service to ensure these meet the needs of the services, national targets and Trust objectives. - To lead the service through periods of change, managing any constraints, tensions and opportunities sensitively and appropriately. - Provide a high-level contribution to national and regional workgroups and initiatives ensuring the best and most up to date practice is adopted across all services Financial & Information Management - To allocate, manage and monitor the Therapy service budgets, ensuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently and annual efficiency savings are delivered.
- To identify sources of funding and create and implement business plans to meet service needs and developments. - To be accountable for the data collection of service activity. To assess and analyse complex data in order to identify patterns and trends to enable effective and informed decision making and long-term planning of services. - To undertake long-term work-force planning through analysis of data to assist in the planning of caseloads and inform decisions around changing skill mix.
