Medical Laboratory Assistant

Epsom, United Kingdom Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

An opportunity has arisen in the Cellular Pathology Department for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA).

As an MLA you will be an integral part of the laboratory team supporting the work of the Biomedical Scientists in providing a diagnostic Cellular Pathology service. The main duties include specimen reception and data entry, specimen processing, equipment maintenance, filing and referral of material to other laboratories, and other general laboratory tasks. The laboratory will provide full training in these duties.

The Laboratory currently operates Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00. You will need to be flexible and take part in a rota within these hours. The post is predominantly based at Epsom but you will be required to work across both hospital sites.

Essential qualities we require are efficiency, organisation, good communication skills and attention to detail.

You should also have the ability to cope in stressful and pressurised situations and work well within a team.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care, to a wider area, covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.

We serve an area that is rich in diversity, with a mix of urban and rural areas, and differing levels of quality of life. We cover some of the most prosperous postcodes in the country, as well as some poorer areas. Together with our colleagues at NHS Surrey and NHS Sutton and Merton, we work to make sure that we deliver the best possible care to the communities we serve.

The Trust employs approximately 5,000 staff across its hospitals and is supported by over 500 volunteers.
