**About the HSE Security Function and Profession**

HSE’s Security function and security professionals are distributed across the organisation, ensuring that HSE’s people, information, technologies, and assets are safe and adequately protected. A strong cyber security capability works alongside other government departments to keep HSE information services protected, and controls are constantly being improved as threats have evolved. The Head of Security and small support team, ensure that that the function and profession operates in a coordinated fashion, promoting compliance to government and international standards and encouraging continuous improvement.

**Job description**:
As Head of Security, you will establish an appropriate security culture in HSE, mitigating security risks and provide assurances that security controls are effective.

You will:

- Provide assurance to the Accounting Officer and the Senior Information Risk Owner that HSE’s security risks have been appropriately mitigated and threats controlled.
- Support the Board and Executive Committee with security guidance on threats, vulnerabilities, and means to control risks.
- Provide assurance and guidance to all Divisional Directors on operational security risks, threats, vulnerabilities, and controls.
- Lead and manage the Security Team and the security profession in delivering advice, guidance, direction and assurance in all security activities.
- Lead the investigation of all security breaches, identifying root causes and providing recommendations to remediate.
- Develop and manage the security risk register, that allows Senior Responsible Officers to control and mitigate the HSE’s security risks.
- Liaise with Cabinet Office, Other Government Departments, CPNI and the National Technical Authority to develop awareness within HSE of Threats, Controls and the exploitation of vulnerabilities.
- Commission, monitor and assure the regular assessment of personnel, technical, physical and cyber security controls and the remediation of vulnerabilities.
- Commission the regularly assessment the maturity of HSE against the Information Assurance Maturity Model (IAMM) and develop action plans to assist the HSE in developing an appropriate information assurance culture.
- Deliver Security Incident Management, controlling incidents and escalating as required.
- Deliver Business Continuity training and guidance and assurance that Business Continuity Plans appropriate mitigate the risks of asset loss.
